I would like to replace the cells in a Cygolite which has 2 18650 cells, to buy from the manufacture they want $80 for the unit.

Does anyone have experience (good or bad) with Radio Shack or Batteries Plus, another local choice would be Interstate battery----or should I order AW online and if so where is the favorite place of those on CPF?

Thanks
Dan

I tried batteries plus a few weeks ago and the manager of that location flat told that there is no such thing as a rechargeable lion battery. After I showed her my 18650 I had in my L2P, all she said was "no". I would recommend AW or Redilast. On the cheap the flame trustfire from DX.

old4570: Have you seen or been able to test the Cytac brand batteries?

Batteries Plus advertise that they can rebuild battery packs, including lithium ion (link: http://www.batteriesplus.com/t-tech-center.aspx) So I wonder how that works out in practice, then? Sounds like it might only apply to specialist stores, or maybe they send the packs away to be rebuilt?

I've never heard of Radio Shack selling lithium ion batteries like that. Radio Shack just sells regular consumer batteries like other electronics stores. You really can't just go out and buy 18650 lithium ion batteries. Even someone who stocks them would likely be reluctant to give them to you due to safety concerns.

I'm on pretty good terms with one of the workers at our Batteries Plus, and tried a few times to get him to build me battery packs (B65, 18650), and he danced around the subject a few times, and then I flat out asked him, "Why Not?" and he said it was a policy due to liability. They can only re-build pre-built "packs". They had 18650's but they weren't allowed to sale them due to liabilty, they could only place them in and resolder them together in older packs.

kinda sucks for geeks/flashaholics like us, and makes them seem "less than worthy" "What do you mean you can't sell me an 18650??? You have 20 of them sitting right there?", but, they do provide a nice service to the community in general...plus they sale some decent lights...

Yeah, 18650s
RS will look at you like you've got two heads
They have lith-ion battery packs for wireless phones though
