18650 Light with Focus and Multi-Mode

Personally I think most prefer the clip bezel down so maybe save yourself the trouble.

Anything in bronze finish for me? 🙂

Also, my feeling is, keep it short/small

Whaaaaat? I guess I assumed a light of this spec and features would have a forward clicky. I consider it mandatory in high end (>$60-70) lights anymore. I think a forward clicky tailcap, even if longer, would be a hot option. I switched all the Fenix lights I didn't sell to fwd clickies as soon as they became available - it was the only way I was going to keep them. Maybe a simple momentary-twist switch would keep it short. Just an option.
I'll place my order for a warm tint momentary version.
As for a forward switch, it is possible to do so but it would increase its length considerably. This light is considerably smaller than most 18650 (or 2x CR123) lights - in fact is not much larger than some single CR123 lights such as the E1B, see previous post.

My bad. I didn't think you were seriously considering that since any second switch would add over a cm to the length and it appears your general design & layout are already decided. So the tail switch IS a momentary clicky?
Blindasabat, we are talking about having another switch at the front of the light.

Like this?

Ya, that's what I meant. For me this would make a beautiful light more attractive still. While the general public (non CPF members) may not take this feature into consideration at first, I think after a few clicks they may learn to appreciate it😀.

Is there any chance of getting the body with no flats?

VB, I agree with you on the cut-outs of the tail-standing tail cap. I have made some minor changes - some functional, some cosmetic. I had to lengthen the head to allow sufficient travel for the focusing mechanism. Also streamlined some parts to give a sleeker look. The flats will be used for model and serial number info. The area surrounding the flats (between the adjacent clearance grooves) will have an aggressive (sharp pointed) diamond point knurling to give a good gripping surface.

George, the reason I considered a bezel UP clip is for those who might want to clip it to cap for use as a headlamp. I concur that bezel down only is the way to go. For those wanting to use the light as a headlamp, I will offer a gimbal mount for attaching to helmets and/or hard hats - I think the cavers and bikers will like this option. The gimbal mount will allow fine tuning of the beam direction and lock it in place with a single knob. Here is the latest iteration (sleeker and more polished looking, IMO) compared to a ZL H60 headlamp.

The lights will be available in black or a natural/pewter/gunmetal color. We will look at other color options if demand is there.

Well, I'm with you all the way for several reasons. One, I LIKE what you're doing because it's right up there with MY taste but I and I'm prolly not the only one here, really appreciate you asking for input.

With forums like this and others like it, I don't see how the hell manufacturers just go on to make stuff without asking for input and then wonder why no one buys their poop!

I like the cutouts or flutes or whatever they're called (can you tell me what they ARE called so I know) much better on the previous version and I would still like to see more of them on the body but that's my opinion.

My man :twothumbs

See? We've got good taste bro.

So, what are they, flutes or what the hell's the word for it? I feel like a ******* not knowing but talking about it...HEEEEEEEEEELP!

Yep. How about making two sets of flutes on the body maybe separated with a circular line/cut?

By the way, you know you don't have to but if it's easy and you want to do it, I'd love to see how it looks. As far as I'm concerned, this is a good looking flashlight.

By the way, the reason I haven't bought more flashlights is 'cause many of them are ugly as hell so when I like something, it looks damn good. I'm picky as hell and this is a really good looking light.

That's one reason I bought my jet beam. I want their latest light but I think they've screwed up the design a little, look wise that is.

Damn, that's pretty neat. Can't decide on which I like better. Prolly cause I hate gold 🙂

Both look good though

THanks

Hey, when do you expect to have these ready? After all I've bugged you, I'm gonna have to buy one 🙂

Hey, are you going to have a super low mode for really long runtime/emergency?

In low mode (estimated 20-25 lumens, 80mA current draw) you can expect close to 30 hours run time with a 18650. No plans yet for a super low mode.

I will have 5 prototypes made in June. If initial testing goes well, I will do a batch of 30 pre-production units in July for 3rd. party test/evaluation, reseller samples, etc. If you (or others) would like to be testers, please PM me.

BTW, although I have not mentioned it in this post, this light is being developed in parallel with another line of larger lights for duty use. This larger light is designed for 2C or 3C cells - easy availability of power sources is the primary consideration in this case. It will have similar features and I have been incorporating changes/improvements to it based on suggestions given here. I envision the 18650 to be an ideal backup/EDC to the larger lights.

Here is the 3C, 2C and the 18650 on the bottom - with a 6P thrown in for size comparison.

I'll give the name thing a thought. Any particular direction you want to go with the name and I assume you plan on doing this in the future? Ie, a good name NOW is important.

Although I would love to be part of the testing group, in all fairness, I'm not qualified to give a good review so better let someone smarter have a go at it.

Also I think you should reconsider the super low mode. Not only does everyone seem to be doing it and people here seem to like it, but I also think it's a great feature in case of emergency.

By the way, I like the other lights above too.

I'm not sure if you mentioned this, but what is the light focusing device? Does this use a reflector, an aspheric lens, or an optic like the LED lensers?
