18650 to 2D Mag Adaptors now for Sale!

Ok, so I just finished making a couple of these adaptors, so I'm putting them up for sale. Right now I have materials for about 10 of these, and can easily get more material.

These adaptors are made out of delrin plastic. These are ~32.5mm wide and are ~128mm long. The rods are very strong, yet flexible and are ~4mm wide. I will also include a rubber O-ring. This keeps the batteries very tight in the adaptor.

My sony 18650's are 65mm long. When both batteries are inserted the top one sticks out several mm to make contact with the spring. The base of the adaptor is made out of copper and is screwed into the plastic. I use a punch to make a dent in the copper so It will make a good connection.

Because of the length of most 18650 cells, I highly recommend either cutting the stock mag spring, getting a new one, or just not using one at all. If you file off some of the finish on the tail cap, it will make contact with the copper.

Because of different sizes of 18650's and possible slight variations of mag tube lengths, I would highly recommend buying some small rare earth magnets from DX. These can be found Here for $1.20 for 10 of these magnets. These work great for extending the + terminal of 18650 / CR123A cells. I'll try to order some more from DX and in the future sell 10 magnets for an extra $1.

*Note* I am not sure if this will fit other "D" size lights other than mags. I'm not responsible for anyone incorrectly using this item. Be aware that I am not a manufacturer. This are made in my home, using fairly ordinary tools. These are not 100% perfect, but I do my best and will guarantee that these are quality and durable battery adaptors.

Nifty creation. How are the cells inserted/removed for recharging? Just slide them through the hole in the positive end of your holder? Or do you need to partially diassemble it? Thanks.

It's very easy, just like you guessed. Slide them through the hole on the positive end of the holder. Also, I thought I'd mention that it is possible to disassemble it, although the 4mm rods are very tightly fitted into the top and bottom pieces.

Sure I can do that. I don't have a C mag on hand though just a D. But It should be no problem to make one. The top and bottom spacers would just need to be a little smaller. I'll try and make one...

Thats not a problem. I can make C size, it will look a little different though. It will have 4 rings of plastic that act as spacers (no rods). The bottom spacer / ring, will have copper on it to connect to the end cap.

Are they stackable?

(2x18650) + (1x18650) = 3D
(2x18650) + (2x18650) = 4D
(2x18650) + (2x18650) + (1x18650) = 5D

and so on ...

They will stack and make connection, but before buying just make sure your maglite will fit the number of 18650 cells you plan to use. For 2x18650 you need to remove or modify the end spring. I do not have a 3D mag, so I can not text 3x18650's.

18650's are 65mm's long, while D cells are like 60mm's long. If you think 3x18650's will fit in a 3D mag with a end spring mod, then I'd be willing to custom make a 3D to 3x18650 holder for you, so you will not have to use two different adaptors.

The price for a 3x18650 adaptor would be $10+2 shipping.
