Hi,

I'm new to having 18650's and I want to get my batteries off to a good start. I know you're supposed to keep them at around 40% charge but was wondering if anybody recommended storing them in the fridge as well? If so, how would you recommend avoiding condensation? I read a suggestion to keep a silica gel packet with them.

BatteryUniversity says there's only a 4%/yr at 25C, so I'm wondering if keeping them in the fridge might be overkill and if I should just find a nice dry place in my house.

Also, if I'm only going a week or 2 between uses, should I bother with all this extra care or are these suggestions more for storage on the magnitude of months?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions 🙂

It wont hurt them any. I started to keep my 18650s in the fridge only if i don't use them for a while. just dont freeze them.

so you mean keeping the 18650 in the fridge prevents them from losing charge or prevents the cells from going bad and not keeping charge anymore?

Keeping them in the fridge may slightly extend the life of the battery. I personally wouldn't bother unless you plan on not using the cells for months... However keep in mind that the fridge is a high moisture environment, so be sure to keep the cells in a sealed air-tight container or zip lock bag to prevent rust / corrosion.

last week, I put 10 18650 batteries in fridge. put those on zip lock bag and then plastic container. keep it bottom compartment. all batteries salvaged from laptop battery packs

reason:
1. I don't need these cells for long time
2. room temperature around 34C during day time (sunny days)
