Had some parts lying around and the final stage of the mod is here. The final light engine are 2 1/2W samples I recieved a while ago, 1 red and 1 amber. These are soldered on a 'custom' cut board so that the diodes are in reversed parallel connection. The base is glued in place with red glow-poxy. This is charged by both the amber and the red LED's. Now the beauty of this mod is 'color selection'. With the batteries installed (+) side first, it lights up RED, reverse the batteries (-) side first and it lights up amber. The lens on the end really helps with the output. Being the LED's are almost 180deg, the lens which is right on top of the LEDs, gets most of the light out. There is 5.1ohms of resistance behind the board which limits the amber to about 180mA and the red to about 220mA.
The head on views have the LED running at about 30mA to save my camera /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
