Local TV coverage usually gets boring after awhile showing, more than needed, the popular events like swimming, track & field..
Personally I'd like to see weight lifting prelims..
AND, surfing will be held in Tahiti's infamous deadly bowl break called Teahupo'o. One of the hairiest waves in the world. With many great wave riders from all around the globe, should prove exciting if there's a large swell during the event 🤙

Unfortunately the Summer Olympics always brings to my mind the Munich 1972 Summer Olympics. I remember that tragedy like it was yesterday. Sitting on the couch in my girlfriend's house watching Jim McKay describe the unfolding nightmare.
They seem to be aiming at the X-Games crowd these days. Skateboarding and BMX freestyle are also part of the modern Olympic Games.
Worst Olympic games in history.... Yes, even worse than the 1936 Games hosted in Germany.

I personally don't care for the trend of mixing extreme sports and the traditional Olympic sports together. It's not unlike mixing drunken golf ball hackers with low handicaps into the lineup at The Masters tournament. As a person with aches and pains from crashing on skateboards and bicycles doing stupid stuff Evel Knievel said "awe hell no I aint doing that", I've always held the traditional Olympic sport in high regard. So to introduce surfing into Olympics at a place where the riders could be mamed or killed in in poor taste. Same with kids doing triple whammie backflip on a bicycle or double axle grind to twist-o-flip-de-doo down a 65 stair rail.
Nope, the Olympics is about snobs and great atheletes, or at least it used to be. Why not just drop atheletes out of helicopters without a parachute over the sides of Mt Everest and the winner is the person who survived? If nobody survives give the gold to the corpse who displayed the most extreme contorsions made while tumbling to their death. Now that would sell sports drinks and sneakers, right? Afterall it's about the money these days. The fees for tv rights would be off the chain.
