Hey hey
I have a couple of strands of these RGB-color-changing Osram Sylvania "mosaic light chains" - http://www.sylvaniaonlinestore.com/p-22-mosaic-chain-lights.aspx - with dead power adaptors. Original adaptor takes 120Vac 60Hz and converts to 24Vac 250mA.
I could get replacements from OS but I'd just as soon reuse the RGBs in other applications - they're actually made to fit into a standard C3 mini Christmas strand light socket - the chip for the RGB is miniscule and actually cast into the lens!
Do you reckon the power has to be AC? I could use these little lights in all sorts of neat applications if it would be possible to power them with DC, but I'm a bit worried I'd fry the chip. I'm new to electronics and all of this is above my skill level right now - but LEDs are my passion so I'd love some advice on the subject
