Would it be possible to mod an existing light, say a thor, into taking a Phillips MSD 250 theatrical short arc bulb? Any ideas on this? Maybe it's not feasible, but can it be done?

I would be worried about heat in such a light. Throw would not be that great, as it's not a short arc metal halide (before you flame me, there ARE short arc metal halides made by Philips). Also the MSD250 puts out roughly 1,120 btu/hr of heat +/- 10%.

Metal halides have better efficiency than halogen so that helps slightly. Correct me if I am wrong but 200W halogen bulb gives about the same amount of heat as this 250W MSD. The Thor 15MCP already has 130W bulb so not that much difference. Of cource HID has to be run continously so the heat builds up and high power HID requires ballasts, inverters, sh$t load of batterys and stuff, not an easy job but maybe doable.
