I am trying to get a setup to create a burning laser in a tiny solitare mag flashlight (the keychain ones). I have gotten it all set up to stick the diode in, and ordered 3 250mw laser diodes for 60$ but I am not entirley sure how to get power to it.

I was going to try and put some button cell batteries in but I am not sure what the best voltage and current is to run it at would be. Here is the url for the laser diode information if it helps:

Anyone know what the best current/voltage to run it at would be?
I will also upload pictures of the micro maglight setup as soon as i get some.

This diode is not really 250mW, unless you push it.. And hard..

I think it's the same as the ones from SenKat..
Even on the page you linked it says 90mW CW.

I think you could safelly use 200mA with it.

Anyway, button cells might not do. Not sure they can do such a high current. I will make a test to see, but even if they could, they wouldn't really last long.

If you were to use four of them, that wouldn't be enough to use with a proper current regulated driver circuit.

But i fully understand why you want it as small as possible. I want it that way as well..

I'm currently working on a step up driver circuit, that could operate from a single Ni-Mh or alkaline cell. If it should turn out to be impossible to achieve enough current, i will use a rechargable Li-Po. You can get them in very small sizes.

If you had enough place for an AA size battery, you could maybe use two RCR2 Li-Po rechargable cells and the LM317 driver. This is the way i'll go for my next burner laser.

So far i can only power a Blue Ray from the step up circuit, but i don't have the right inductors yet... I hope it get's better when i get them.
