Yesterday I read a post noting that these very compact lamps made by Osram and private labeled by Radio Shack were on closeout sale at $4.99 @.

I quickly bought the last 6 at store # 4 I called (the others were out). The sticker says $4.99 but the computer at all stores, including those without stock, is at $2.97. I got 6 for < $18.

They are quite bright little room and reading lights. Draw is 700 mA so run time is short with alkaline (1 1/2 hours), longer with NiMH (2+ hours) and best with lithium (almost 4 hours). Get them while you can.

That's a heck of a deal. I remember when I got one a year or so back I paid a lot for it, somewhere between $15.00 and $20.00!!!

Thanks for the heads up! Just got of the phone and one of the stores is holding a few for me. Looks like Fluorescents for lunch!!!!

Somebody here on CPf posted a photo of the light that will replace that one. I can't seem to find it, but it has a bit more rounded (slick) look to it.--exactly same light though.

Cat.# on the R.S. closeout one is: 61-853

I picked up 3 today - left 3 for someone else(although the clerk said he was going to get one). Thanks for the heads-up!

I bought my first one February of this year for just under $12. I'm glad you guys were able to find them.

(I never could find any of Mr. Bulk's $2.97 closeout Mag 3C clones.)

Mr Bulk:

Charlie, $2.97 3C for $2.97 Osram Fluorescent even up? How many do you want? I'll look for more.

I just called a store that has 21 of these left in stock at $2.97 @. I think I just might take a slight detour and drive home that way.

Clark,

I only have one I can trade. Shipping would be a wash, let me know...

A friend of mine gave me one as a birthday present with a note: "Use for blinding people."

I bought another one about a year ago that cost between $11 and $15, so I have to investigate further into this.

(It broke when I fell at Times Square New Year's Celebration 2001.)

Mr. Bulk:

I did stop at the RS store with 21 of these lights on the way home and showed tremendous self control by buying only 10 more. That's 16 in two days. Lets see, I've only given four away so far so I'll be happy to trade one of them to you.

Thanks for the offer.

"I made the drive
And now have five"

But I'll still trade you one for one if you want (check your e-mail).

Many of the stores in the more populated areas were out, but a drive out to the "country" side of the island brought my quest to fruition.

I've been lurking for a while on CPF and finally decided to register to post. I've been a flashaholic since early childhood. Many a night was spent playing with flashlights in bed when I was supposed to be sleeping.

I called my local RS and they had one light left on the clearance table so I drove over and grabbed it quickly.

I am very impressed with it. Very small but very nice light output. For $2.97 you really can't go wrong!

And it's only because of CPF that I even knew the lights existed, and for such a deal. Thanks everyone!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Zounds! Hmmm, the Missing Light Caper...

Gotta be an emplyee inside job. And for $2.97??? Even less at employee discount??? Sad...

There are 3 RS stores within a four mile radius of my home, and all three were wiped clean of this light. Sounds like a trip up to the country tomorrow. I've noticed that the "hicker" the area, the more stock they RS stores seem to have. The population thins out considerably the further north and west you travel from my location and I'm just literally a stones ttow from NYC. Proving this theory tomorrow should be fun
