http://www.cs.indiana.edu/~willie/lvr.html talks about bulb overdriving.

Has a chart that says a 4V 25hour halogen would put out 23% more light and burn out in 8 hours at 4.2V, and 41% more to burn out in 2 at 4.4V. .4V is 10%, 3->4 cell is 33%, so if that chart's right, the bulb shouldn't last much time at all.

On the walamp.com site rerating a 250 hour #997418-1 3.5V bulb to 3.85V gives me 80 hours. Again 10% overvoltage, but this time a 1/3 reduction not 1/10th.

Doesn't seem to be the experience around here, though.

I just changed my 3-D cell mag to a 4-C cell light using the same 3 cell bulb. What a difference. My question is how long will the bulb last with this setup?

Thanks

Bill

Bulbs of 3.6v SEEM to hold up to 4AA or 4C pretty well. I never do runtime plots, and always have something else available should I pop a bulb. That said I have several overdriven lights with the most used one a TEC 40 with a KPR103. Same bulb for over an hour of MUCH on/off.

The puky M*g reflectors SEEM to do a cleaner job when you hit 'em with more power
