The 3AA to 1D, can two of these be put into a 2D mag to keep the 3.6 volts? (Caution, Newbie here! This is probably a pretty stupid question, but I just want to verify if it will actually fit in the tube length-wise. I already ordered a 6AA to 2D for something else.)

no....
it might fit, but wont be 3,6v, to keep 3,6v in 2d you need to use 3 C cells, no adapters needed. that is if you wanna stay with nimh\nicd, or use single lithium ion cell.

Maybe I should state for what this is to be used for, if it makes a difference; I am looking for a bettery solution for powering a SST-90 with a D2Flex board. I was hoping to power it using AA's and adapters if at all possible, but if 3C's would work, I am game for that too and use the 6AA to 2D for something else. What C's would you recommend?

I would think that his adapters in 3AA to 1D with two it would be a 3 Parallel Cells for 3.6v x 2 (Series). Maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet this morning... 🙁

You can also use BLACK 8AA adapter for 4.8 volt or use 2 dummies for 3.6 volt, 4000mAh operation in bored out 2D M*g.

Vey nice piece in the link.. Now if you think that will work for my set up in the previous post, I will definitely take one and post in the other thread..

EDIT: My previous post was delayed due to being a newbie.. 🙂

6aa adapter would work just fine with sst50 and d2flex (you're good up to 24v), so would c cells, i used tenergy cells, wasn't disappointed.
there are many ways, FM adapter is most convenient, reliable, safe way imo, safe chemistry cells, low resistance, charge all at once.
