3P bezel/LED/finish questions

Hey everyone...

This may seem silly, but will the 6PD bezel (or complete head, if necessary) fit onto a 3P?

Disclaimer to avoid getting a rush of negative replies: I understand completely that the 3P lacks the leverage, length, mass, etc. to make an actual defensive tool. This will actually be more of just a "Hey...that's kinda cool" piece for my own amusement.

On a similar note, can anyone tell me which LED drop-in seems to work best with the 1-cell format and a R123? I'm looking for brighter than stock, obviously, but runtime will be more important to me in this light.

While we're at it, can anyone recommend a good shop to refinish an aluminum light? (No, we're not losing a classic with these mods, I've been looking for a well-worn but functional one just for this pupose. I wouldn't have the heart to mess with a NIB or "minty" 3P.)

Thanks everyone!!

~~Mike

G&P 3w drop in from Lighthound works well with 3.7 battery. I replaced the bezel on
my 3p with a G2Z bezel and put the 3p bezel away so it would stay pristine. A black
Surefire clicky w Nekomane tail and you have a nice little light. Talk to grnamin about
refinishing your light. He uses some kind of coating but I dont know if it comes in
black.

What kind of runtime do you get with the 3W/3.7v setup? I'd love to set that up on mine. I'm currently using 2 primaries and a lighthound "detonator" on mine.

Hi,

I just "won" an Red Surefire 3P on eBay and I hope it arrives safely... Does anybody know if it would be possible to use any of this lamps in it with lithium or AW's NEW 3.7V - 750mAh protected rechargeable Li-Ion battery:

- Solatek's (new) XR-E P4 Cree Drop-in 3.7V-12V - 700mA (640mAh?) - ? Lumen $50 - Runtime?
- Lighthound's Cree Drop-In 3.7V - 750mAh (600-660mAh ?) - ? Lumen - $39.99 - Runtime?
- G&P's 1W Luxeon 6V - 42 Lumen $26.99 - Runtime?
- G&P's 3W Luxeon 6V - 70 Lumen $39.99 - Runtime?
- G&P's G30 3V Incan - ? Lumen $16.99 - Runtime?
- W-E's 3.7V (4.2V MAX) Incan - 100 Lumen $16.00 - Runtime?
- Lumens Factory EO-4 - 3.7V Incan - 190 Lumen $14.99 - Runtime ~ 40 min.
- Lumens Factory HO-4 - 3.7V Incan - 150 Lumen $12.99 - Runtime ~ 65 min.

Thanks for your help! :)

edit 1: according to another CPF member, the incans from Lumens Factory would be a no-go because of battery problem... would probably not be able to run the bulb...

Don't run the G&P G30 with the rechargeable it will blow the bulb...too much voltage. I usually run a G&P 1 watt with good luck. Don't have runtimes for you though. You can run a KL3, but it ends up with a very narrow beam. KL5 works well and has a nice throw, but runtime I'm sure would be short. I only did a few minutes. Best overall for me again is the G&P 1 watt. Be warned that the bezel will not screw down all te way but that is typical of the Cree and G&P LED drop in replacements. But you can get it down about 80% of the way. With all these mentioned above you definately have to run the 3.7V rechargeable. The CR123 will only run the G&P G30.

I ran the G&P 1 Watt in my 3P tonight powered by a Battery Station 3.7V 900 mAh rechargeable. It put out full light for a little over an hour. By 75 minutes it had started to dim and the light had cooled off even though it was still putting out some light. Hope this helps.

Hi zx7dave, and thank you for testing the G&P's 1W LED runtime! :)

Since the Solatek is now modded with a shorter reflector and under further improvments (?) to became an real "Drop-In" Cree for the Surefire 6P/9P, I will maybe buy one:popcorn:, if it would fit in the 3P....

Since my "to be" 3P is in Red, I don't think I would put any other lego-colored parts on it... I bought it because it was in red :sold: and hopefully find the right lamp/LED/Cree/battery to go with it...

Does anybody know if it is a HA Type II or III ??

According to www.opticsplanet.net it uses Surefire R30 Lamp; 20 Lumen ~ 60 min. runtime.

Thanks again!
