Sold/Expired 3rd Run: MC-E + 18650

sprinkle,

Really sorry about that, I think the MC-E is overdrived by the battery.
Is it IMR 18650?

Don't worry, I will take care of it.
PM is coming.

Thank you! Look forward to the PM and getting this resolved.

It is the standard AW18650 3.7V 2200 mAh battery. Don't have any of the IMR ones.

*update*
Working on a solution with download now. So I should be able to join in with the other happy owners of this light fairly soon. I want to be able to write up a good little review about it when I get it for the ones interested in any future runs of this light.

Thanks download!

Mine showed up today, I'm having a few issues with it. 1. It goes into high for a split second and then shuts off, wondering if my 18650 doesn't support the high current draw, it's an older AW18650. 2. On every level there is flicker and it seems to have something to do with the connection to the bezel because if i turn it I can sometimes get it to go away. Does anyone else have issue with the threads catching the body? i have to push fairly hard to get it to start threading on the body. Also, the wire that is on the converter, should it be sticking out so far? my body crunches into it when you screw it on all the way.

1. The current will draw more than 3A at Max. setting, it will be high demand for protected circuit.
But I would not recommend IMR battery.

2. The flicker did come from the circuit, not the bezel & body connection.
It does appear very short time, then gone. From time to time, not alway happen.
The O-ring is tight sealed between the bezel & body, have to pay a bit attention to push it back. Not the thread problem.
I would suggest to insert the battery inside the body before pushing the bezel back.
The battery would guide the wire not stick out and leave 1mm gap between bezel and the body. For more home of the battery.

If the flicker is not comfortable to you, the alterative choice would be 8x7135 driver (Max2.8A).

Is the wire suppose to be soldered to the driver? My wire came out. I can put it back in but it looks like it should be soldered to one of the soldered areas. I'm going to order a newer 18650 and try it, mine is probably 4-5 years old and probably doesn't support the high drain i imagine.

It looks like this 3rd Run LED voltage are too low for the battery.
I did test several time with my old battery before shipping, but not in new battery.

Suggest all of you sent back the light to me.
I will change the 8x7135 driver of it (Max2.8A).
It should not have any flicker or turning blue issues.

Couple questions:
Like gessner17 asked, what is the differences in the batteries?

Also what will changing the driver from 3A to 2.8A do to the performance of the light? Will it have a less output? Will it change the runtime?

Older battery can't maintain the high voltage under load compare to newer battery.
In this case, the newer battery voltage is too high for MCE.

If you can solder the driver yourself, I could just send you the driver.
But send back the light to me would be easier.
Sorry about that.

You can't see any different brightness in your eyes, only the meter can tell under 5%.
Runtime would be the same or 5% longer.

After checking Sprinkle light, the MC-E came off from heatsink.
That was the main reason why its fried in seconds.
The light is installed with 8x7135 driver now.
Tailcap current is 0.16A, 0.96A, 2.88A. (L,M,H)
It can accept any kind of 18650 including IMR without problems.
It is returning to you, Sprinkle.
Hope you enjoy it again! 🙂

Mine is one its way back for the new driver, thanks to Download. I am using IMR cells, and the current at the tailcap was higher than Download's, indicating it is overdriving. I have to say the light was very very bright. Tested it up at our cabin where the dark is complete, and it lit up the mountainside, even with a layer of Scotch Magic Tape on the lens to diffuse the beam. It's the light I will be carrying up there from now on.

Sprocketman, got your light, will send out soon.

sprinkle, Thanks!

gbleeker, might have 1 or 2 extra, stay tuned.

I'm interested too if you have another extra. If you don't, could you tell us when will be the next run, if any?

Wow, these things look damn sexy! :sssh: I know I'm gonna be needing one of these when the new run and prepay list opens up! Hope I don't miss my chance, 8-10 people doesn't seem to be much room, my guess that all slots get filled on the first day of the run opening. Time to start camping CPF! Not that I don't do that all the time anyways...:duh2:

Thanks all of you.
Please wait a little bit more, till I finish everything of 3rd run.
The 4th Run will be there.
:thanks:

Well I just got my light back today. So far so good. I will try to test it out tonight and see if it is going to work good. I will be out of town for a couple of weeks but when I get back I am going to do some comparisons with some of my other lights, most specifically the MG PLI MC-E. I will post here with some beamshots.
