For lots of power in little space, I favor AA lights that mount the cells side by side: UK 2AAA, 2AA and 4AA, Streamlight 4AA Propolymer, and so on. This new Ikelite 4AA is just 4.5 inches long. It has a switch for one-handed use, comes in five colors, and sells for about $31.

And the Ikelite 6AA PCa is just 4 inches long (but I think it has no switch, just a rotating bezel):

It, too, comes in five colors. It sells for about $25.

Like UK's SL series, Ike also offers a 4C side-by-side light, the PC (2.5 by 6 inches).

Good things in small packages...

OK, I found some CPF threads on the PCm (4aa) and PCa (6aa). Evidently the beam quality is full of artifacts. Worse, the plastic reflector gets so hot, the light must be used underwater if you're running it more than a few minutes.

Now that I think of it, about 10 years ago I used to own the PC (4C) and discovered this the hard way. Wait: It may have been a UK SL4.

I have the PCA. It has a switch with a lock out slider that is easy to operate with one hand. I happen to like the shape, and it fits very well in your hand.

I agree that the beam quality is not very good. It is very bright for it's size. To me, it appears brighter than a Brinkman Maxfire but not as bright as a Surge.

I use it for short periods of time out of the water and have never noticed the reflector melting.
