Well, I bought one today for $14.90. It's the standard Dorcy Rhinolite(Turtle I & II) with a non-faceted reflector. Bulb is the Ledcorp replacement led bulb. The beam is permanently focused to a fine point and is a little too intense. However, a fair amount of corona results which provides adequate lighting for activities such as hiking trails. The led setup works but is awkward.

I tried the Ledcorp bulb in my Mag4 and am quite impressed by the performance. Very usable spotlight and a good wide glow. This thing was drawing 71ma but didn't have any noticeable problems. The ledbulb functioned better in the Mag4 than in the Dorcy.

Just for fun, I also tried the bulb in a Mag3 and measured a current draw of 31ma. The spotlight was not as intense as with the 4cell but was still moderately functional. Wide glow was less but still quite usable, maybe a little brighter than the Infinity.

The best thing here is to put the ledbulb in the Mag4 and to use the flashlight body for a an led conversion project. It's definitely a well designed and ergonomic little light. It's waterproof, sits or stands alone, has a good switch, a folding hanger, well-balanced, and just feels great. It'll be great with 4-5 leds at 20-25ma each. I like this light better than the Dorcy Boss for conversion use.

i haveledcorp's 1 single and 1 2led. both in the 4 cell variety. i read there is a 2 cell version but iforgot who makes it? i have 4d maglite, 4aa arc-white, 4aa sears tool light, coleman 4d adjustable lantern that i've been toying with. the 2led didn't work well in 4d mag, it works much better in the tool light. wide beam with the faceted reflector. the single led works great in the 4d mag as a long distance tight beam light. so i have an option here. my eternalight classic pretty well fills in the rest of my needs as far as led lights go. which are giving my "regular" flashlights a break! when i really need light i'll use an incandescent or flourescent, but those occasions are rare. but those sure-fires are looking nice. someday maybe?

Franken: You might want to try that single LED LEDCORP bulb in the Energizer Arc White that you said you have. I have this setup and am very pleased with it. The reflector on the Arc White seems to work very well with this LED. I use the single LED LEDCORP bulb for viewing things a ways off and also have the Arc White's very bright and efficient fluorescent tube for wide area lighting up close. When you think about it, this is a very neat and efficient configuration because with just using the LED you get 2 and a half days of light and with the fluorescent tube you get 8 hours. Either way, it's a pretty efficient setup.

MY - Yes, this is a Dorcy product but the led is Ledcorp or licensed by it. I keep my eyes open for new flashlights and they are not widely available. I got mine from an off-beat surplus store. I think that Dorcy has been selling this body to Ledcorp for the Turtlelites. Here they've bought the Ledcorp led & put it into their own flashlight body.

The owner of the surplus store told me that the rep had given them a personal demonstration of this light at the store. He appeared to be unsure of the value of the led light -"except the batteries last just about forever" he said.

Thanks Stu. I also go by regularly the flashlight section of the stores I visit to see if there is anything new. My wife thinks that a flashlight is a flashlight. I guess that I need to force feed her some Candle Power Forum forums.

I also check the flashlight section of most stores i visit, and if there's an led in it, i tend to invest. there's not many hanging on the pegs though? pete, scott????

My local Walmart carries the rubberized Dorcy Boss light (which was my first white led conversion). It's a pretty good little light but I think that the Dorcy Rhinolite (Turtlelite) body is much better designed. Check out the Dorcy site at http://dorcy.com/flashlights.htm

Has anybody found a retail source of these lights? I see them on the Dorcy site but they are a wholesale purchase there, it seems.

I found the Dorcey led flashlight at my local Sears store. The price was $14.95.

I just got one yesterday. There's something evil about putting the auto service station next to the tool section. It's a logical layout but I seem to part with my money easier to pass the time waiting for my car.

First it's not the aluminum one that I posted a picture in another part of this forum. It's yellow plastic with black rubber caps on both ends. It uses a push button switch. The batteries that were included were junk so I tossed them right away and put Energizers in. Much better! It has an extremely narrow beam. But that allows the single LED to project beyond typical LED flashlights. Even multiple LED lights that I've used. The non-reflected, ambient light is pretty good for a single LED. I think the Brinkman that is available at some Wal Marts is a better bargain. It's full of rings compared to the Dorcy Solid State. But the Brinkmann's beam is more usable up close. And uses 2 less AA batteries. I've broken my PAL Light but I'd say the Dorcy projects a smoother beam farther than the PAL.

I've tugged at the bulb a little but I can't seem to shake it loose. It looks like a PR Base bulb but seems to be permanently fixed in place. Since I plan to use it I will not force the issue.

At around $12-$14 I think it's worth adding to a collection.

It's out

I pulled a little harder and the base came off allowing me to pull out the LED bulb. Now where's my 4D MagLite?

haven't seen any led lights at "my" sears in pa. might i ask how that "broken" pal-light came to be? i've seen many positive reviews on this light and broken led lights in general seem to be rare. what happend?

I broke my PAL light by fiddling with it too much. I was flipping the lense around to see which way I liked better. The lense shifting was no problem. But the switch is a tiny, little plastic thing that just begs to be broken. It is no problem if you're careful when taking apart and reassembling the front end.

I just found these in my local Wal-Mart for $7.87 (plus tax) this afternoon.

Somehow, I missed this thread on them. Had I seen it sooner, I probablly would not have bothered... I was kind of hoping that the insides were a little more "High Tech"... But Gee, what did I expect for under eight bucks???

Anyway, I posted my findings (so far) at:

(Don't worry, I'm not planning on starting my own flashlight review site- I'd rather make them than review them)But since "The Punishment Zone" doesn't have a review of this one yet, I thought I'd go ahead with mine.) (In fact, Craig, if you haven't got one of these, you can have this one for "keepsies" if you want - let me know.}

So far - I'm not thrilled with it, although the price is pretty decent. (If I were one of you who paid $15.00 for it a couple of months ago, I'd feel a little bit cheated.)

They're at my Wal Mart too. But they are way up high and not in the for sale items. I can see them but I can't reach them

I've been trying the LED bulb in various flashlights. Like a 4D MagLite and Princeton Tec 40. But I think I like it best in an Energizer Arcwhite.

I bought an Energizer LED lamp though. It's a 4AA miniature version of their flourescent lamp. It looks like one white LED each in twin tubes. Then a reflector of some sort at the other end of the tube to enhance the light output. You can turn on one or both of the tubes. Claimed runtime with one tube is 200 hours. It is brighter than I expected.

There's also a 2D flashlight with a krypton bulb, I think. But it has a blinking LED to let you know where the flashlight is in the dark. I didn't feel inclined to purchase that one though.

The package says "Reorder No. LED4AA1BP". It's a miniature version of this one. No handle. Light comes out one side instead of both and it's about the size of an old Star Trek communicator.

Thanks for those pix, you guys

Btw-about how much was that item, anyway? -I might like to get one and try to soup it up.

Interesting looking LED light is that- and the larger flourescent one too- where can you get them? Or more importantly, where can this overseas-based reviewer get them? I just can`t resist the unusual ones...
