Modding my first mag and I was wondering if I can use 8 AA NiMH to run the ssc p7. The driver I am using is this one http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=7947. Not the best driver from what I have read on cpf but I will try it anyways can't afford the expensive ones. Appreciate any inputs on this. I also found *2 AA holder that converts to D size batteries. Hofefully this will work.

Well, it says 5.5-12V, so no, I don't think 4.8V from 4s2p batteries would work.
If you really want to use that battery config with a cheap driver, I'd recommend an AMC7135 driver, it'll only be about 70-75% efficient, but simple and regulated for almost the whole runtime (which should be about 1.2 hours), with a nice quickish slide (maybe 15 minutes or so) into moon mode; will also work with 4xD NiMH for 3 hour runtime.

If you want to stick with that driver, you'll need 5-10 NiMH cells, 2-3 LiCo/LiMn, or 2-4 LiFe cells -- the only obvious solutions for a 4D body are 5 NiMH C cells, 7 NiMH 1/2D cells, 4 LiFe 32600 (D-sized) cells, or 12 or 16 AAs in a 6s2p/8s2p carrier.

Oh, I just thought of one other option -- How about NiZn cells? 4s2p NiZn should give you plenty of voltage...

One battery converter holds 2 AA which runs in series and I will be using 4 of them which total out to be 8 NiMH. That will give me about 11.2v but I got impatience and build a battery holder for 2 18650 and it runs great off of that. The driver has no problem at all and works like it's suppose to. Thanks for the info.
