Well, I was welding for over 10 years, just stopped about 6 months ago. Magnets collect a lot of nasty stuff at work. But mostly it’s the experience I had with my 47’s Preon P0 in stainless back when they were “Preons”, and my Atom A0s. They also had magnets on the back. My nice brass compass that was on my keychain quickly ceased to work at all.
They stick to things on your keys or in your pocket. Last, I always wished the Preon P0/Atom A0 we’re available without magnets because the flashlight body could have been made 1/8 or maybe even 3/16 shorter if the recession for the magnet wasn’t there.

Sames. A light this small gets tossed in a pocket as often as clipped somewhere, and the magnet sticks to everything, well, magnetic. I do love that it's relatively easy to remove...

All valid issues to be sure. I've no experience with such as I've never carried a light with a magnet and I always pocket-segregate my light from everything but a leather wallet.

First impressions - One handed operation is easy and I don't find the new body design to be slippery. :thumbsup:

The tint is a very pleasing neutral, one I enjoyed both indoors and out.

The clip, while no longer a two-way, is much stronger than the one found on the MKII. :goodjob:

I was pleasantly surprised by how much spill the turbo provides. :huh:

The magnet is nothing short of Mickey Mouse strong. :wow: Those of you that pocket carry this light will probably want to remove it. :thinking:

Given how much I like this iteration, I'll also purchase the sibling.

I received mine on Saturday. Woohoo! Getting back into being enlightened.

The magnet comes off easily by unscrewing the brass ring. I put the end of the light against the rubber sole of my shoe and twisted. The ring unscrewed without much effort. I'm thinking of some epoxy and glow powder...

Has anyone found any use for the magnet? It's mildly annoying to me. I guess I can remove it but why bother? I like the light otherwise but it looks like this one is going back on the shelf.

I guess I'll go back to carrying the Mini Turbo MkII.

I'm not big on Frankenlights but I put the MkIII head on the MkII body and it works fine.

Removing the knurling and making the body more slippery has been done before by SureFire with the EB1 and EB2. They went back to the old style knurling in their latest small handheld lights.

The MkII body is easier for me to hold in my fingertips and tailstands more stably. I sure don't miss that magnet.

I think they are about to release one of their QR Keychain dealies for these is the reason the ring comes off so easily.
This way you can stick a QR on there instead of the Magnet maybe?

I have both the MKII and the MKIII Turbos. While I can’t detect a significant performance difference in outside use, the MKIII wins for edc because of U/I. To get L-M-H with the MKII, you have to select a configuration with strobe, SOS and I don’t want to twist through five modes when all I wanted was L-M-H. The MKIII provides basically the same illumination performance, improved the tint and provided a L-M-H configuration.
For me the MKIII is great. Oh, I don’t like the magnet, but was easily removed.

Just a question. With the MKII can't you run mode 6 to get Low – Medium – High – Moonlight (no strobe)? One extra mode, but not hard to program it. Once programmed that is the mode it runs (that's what I run on my non-turbo Mini MKII Ti.

I ended up getting a regular Mini Mk III as well, and I've gone back and forth between the two, but after a month or so with them, I think I prefer the regular Mini to the Turbo. The main differences are:
-The Turbo doesn't get as hot, as quickly as the regular Mini. It's very easy to notice the effects of the Turbo's larger head, which acts as a heat sink, but it's not like the regular Mini gets too hot to hold when on max, with the 30-60 second timed step-down they both have.

-The Turbo has a tighter beam and throws light a little farther, but it's not that throwy -- it's not the mini laser beam like an Emisar D1 with 18350 tube is, although that's not really a fair comparison because the D1 doesn't work with a pocket clip with the shorty tube. I got the Turbo thinking it might be throwy enough to be a pocket thrower for camping, but in use, it's more of a pocket size Zebralight SC64w HI than a mini D1, so I'm not sure it's the best flashlight for what I want to use it for.

-The regular Mini's beam is pretty tight too, with a useful amount of throw when needed. The main difference is that the wider beam has the benefit of being a little more useful for general purposes. That counts for a lot, since the difference in throw is not enough to matter to me at the distances I would use it. Once I got used to the hybrid mode memory, it became a very useful EDC flashlight for me.

The Mini Mark II is initially set to Configuration 6 with Low, Medium, High and Moonlight. They can be reconfigured as often as you'd like. Here are the possible configurations:

• Config. 1: High
• Config. 2: High - Low
• Config. 3: High - Strobe
• Config. 4: Low - Med - High - Strobe
• Config. 5: Low - Med - High - Strobe - SOS - Beacon (hi) - Beacon (lo)
• Config. 6: Moonlight - Low - Med - High
