Happy Birthday 4sevens. Take your time with these since I already have one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif J.K. Excellent Work! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buttrock.gif

You know, I recommend using proof Morgan silver dollars. They're already very shiny, so maybe less polishing is needed. Plus silver is a great conductor of heat. Go for high grade, they're more shiny. I'd say PF65 or higher Morgan silvers.

P.S. AWESOME! Can't wait to get the light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The loonie hit eighty cents =/. My American Paypal account is going down the drain.

Sorry ... I've already done the deed. Maybe next time if there is
a next time, I'll look for a coin cheaper than $1. Speaking of which
I'm gonna pull these pictures soon just in case.

status - I'm in the final assembly process now. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I just spend about 2 hours cutting traces.... ouch, my fingers
hurt so bad. 1 mod was fun, 2 mods was more fun. But 25 lights
are a pain. But don't worry. I'm modding each one as if it was my
own.

update: those who provided hosts have their mods done. Couldn't
ship today because of columbus day. they'll go out tommorrow.
markb's rubber grip version turned out to be a pain as it was
difference and I had to spend extra time to work it out. Circuit
is the same and all, just the body was deeper and I had to readjust
the emitter height.

next step, solder all the resistors on the boards
then, solder the emitters with their heatsinks
then, we assemble /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm estimating total time spend on each light including driving
around for materials and R&D /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif should come to over an hour.

Lights will all ship by the end of this week!!!
I shipped a couple out today....

STUPID me... I left my rechargeable NiMH AAA's in someone's
light. If anyone discovers it, please please send 'em back.
thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great to hear that these will be shipping soon! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hope the United States Secret Service doesn't come knocking on your door! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif (are they called 'G-men'?)

I'm sorry to sound so stupid but what are the best batteries to use in this light? I think there are different kinds of NIMH aaa's? Thanks.........Sky

Use the highest capacity you can find.

I personally use 800mah rayvoac IC-3 15 minute recharables.

alkalines will work, but I recommend recharables since they are
a bit brighter and pay for themselves after a few cycles.

Got my ALX today. At first I was disappointed because I totally forgot about the 2 stage switch.I didn't even realize it until I turned it off then back on.This is an AWESOME light! Thanks 4sevens!

Glad you discovered the HIGH /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

coach you didn't happen to get my NiMH AA's did you?
Whoever find them in their light, please send them back 😛

Also, i'll be shipping these with the battery holder backwards
so the light doesn't come on during transit.

I got a good laugh out of that one. Thanks Coach. You too 4sevens...for the great little light.

This light rocks, especially with the two-stage switch making it good indors and out. On high, it's not quite so bright as my Surefire 6z and P61 lamp, but better than the P60. Nice smooth white hotspot and corona, too. Little heavy for EDC, however very attractive form fits comfortably in my hand. I like the soft lining in the nylon case also. Thanks, David. So what's next, eh?

RECEIVED mine! Very nice light actually, holds well in the hand, body is a little too long/head a little too big for true EDC but then that is why the light puts out a very respectable beam, the size of the reflector necessitates this.

I am hoping perhaps Dave could consider putting in a bigger resistor for the "Low" level click sequence so it can be better suited for those late night excursions to the bathroom and similar, but still there is a very obvious transition/difference between High and Low, just wanted an even *lower* Low according to personal taste although it may turn out to be fine for others the way it is now.

LIKED the eerie blue afterglow of the very neatly done g-powder application around the base of the Luxeon, good job my man!

Also comes with a carrying strap threaded on back and a nice nylon carry case w/velcro flap and belt loop.

Now for the controversy - it is NOT as bright as the big Mag mods, no way (I did swap in brand new alky AAAs at the outset, just to be sure). Perhaps haveblue has an anomalous ProMag or something (I think there was mention of a textured reflector in the Mag? That would have made all the difference) but it is indeed Very Bright for its size nonetheless, about comparable to the VIP w/BH, and only slightly less than the LH on High.

But really a nicely done mod Dave, especially considering the very reasonable price!

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I'm at work now but will try and find some time to take and post pics later...Thanks again!

OMG!!!

As I was packing the lights I just realized that I put green glow in everyones light who requested glow!! I'm really sorry.

I'm debating whether to just ship them or try to pick off the epoxy
and make a batch of blue glow epoxy and do it all over again.

Hrummmm....

I'll do it over again. :bandhead:
