4xAA to D (parallel)

I tried http://www.aventrade.com/baad.html weeks ago, and it didn't work either!:tired:

I'm also looking for some 4AA->D parallel converters! So, if anyone knows something please tell!! :poke:

I have now the 2AA converters you mentioned, but from another suppplier in Austria, they work so far.....😗

no other company known makes the 4AA/D parallel adapters, unless you want to pay a bunch for the custom made high current versions costing about $12 or more each. I made some 4AA/D adapters using a nylon bolt and acorn nut, a slice from a bicycle tube and two fender washers that work acceptably in a few things that have big long springs to accomodate the extra length.

Make a write-up.🙂

Fivemega makes a really nice one but the body needs to be bored so it will fit.

I should be clear, I want one for standard D applications in the house, not high power flashlights.

Is this overkill and/or is the easily available 2xAA to D adapters I linked to, enough for normal household D usage. I just don't want to be changing the batteries all the time with a 1xAA to D adapter (Eneloop spacer).

CPF'er LITEMania (Waren) sells a 3x AA / D adapter.
His model comes as serial but its the holder you're after and very easy to mod it to parrallel. IIRC $4 each?
http://www.litemania.org/product.php?id_product=74

It'll do your application, figure 3s eneloop is ~6000ma (depending on drain), you could pump that up to +8500ma with 3p2650's.

I gotta ask though, why not get a 'D' nihm? 6000 - 10000ma depending on quality of the cell, and $8-12 means they'll come in cheaper then many AA's + holder.

not a good price when the outrageous $7 shipping is added on top of it making $23 for 4 adapters plus the hassle of modding them for parallel use. nimh D cells are out of the question I am not going to invest in a D cell nimh charger that can charge an 8000-12000mah D cell in 4 hours or less at the cost of about $60 or so plus $30-$50 for 4 batteries when I get AAs on sale for cheaper per mah than nimh D cells, and my nimh cells are LSD on top of that.

They should be fine for the vast majority of applications in the home. Other than being unsuitable for high-drain devices, the only other caveat might be that the negative contact plate isn't particularly rigid either.

Oh, I note that the logo on the DealExtreme version of the Soshine adapter doesn't accord with that shown on the Soshine site:

http://www.dealextreme.com ... details.dx.sku.7031

http://www.soshine.com.cn ... products373.htm

Since we know DealExtreme has no problem selling counterfeit products, including the Eneloop, you might want to shop elsewhere for the genuine article. However, if that isn't a concern, this eBay vendor seems to have about the best price for what appears to be the same adapter:

http://cgi.ebay.com ... item=250571550651

I would tend to go with the generic version at the best available price, and get a few extra in case of defects.

Thanks.

That eBay auction is a little sketchy. While it is clearly a 2x AA to D converter, he calls it a 4x AA to D converter. I get that he means there are 4, AA to D converters but it is somewhat misleading if you don't pay attention.

It think no-one's mentioned it yet, but 4AA cells do not fit in the space of one D cell, so a 4AA to D adapter is going to be too large for some devices. It depends how much spare room there is in the battery compartment.

Just thought I'd mention it to avoid surprises. 3AA to D fits nicely though.

It is too big by how much? I thought since people were using them in Mags they would have to be the same size as a D (even with boring, they can't be much larger)

It's actually off by a considerable amount. For a low tech but somewhat accurate & quick gauge. Scotch tape up 4AA cells together & try it in the D cell housing that you intended it for.

wrong, they will fit.

as long as the batts touch each other they will fit, i had them in moded radio shack holder in regular unbored mag, i had to slim it down a lot, and cut slots between the batts. it was a tight fit.

the only reason why you need to bore mag for FM holder is that batteries there are spaced apart a bit.

now that i think of it, i think i know of easy way, all you need are spacers with conductive rings. i'll test it later and post pics.

They must be insulated from the body, or conductor.
