Since I live within walking distance of an HD and had $10 to blow, I went and bought 2 this evening.
Lots of off center emitters on the five that were left, but I found two that looked more or less centered. Another thing I noticed was that this is pretty much a clone of the Dorcy 1 watt my buddy bought a couple years ago, but the quality of construction seems a bit less. A little bit of light leaks from behind the bezel. Cheap elastic headband with some hanging threads and I had to adjust the metal tab that clicks when it is pivoted. A quick but gentle bend with pliers did the trick.
Uses a battery carrier with little springs for contacts. The springs look like they could easily be knocked off and lost while fumbling to orient it before sliding it in.
Three settings: Lo, Hi, and strobe. I hate strobe, would rather have a lower setting as a third option. Puts out a cool beam with a less than round looking spot and minor artifacts. Decent spill but its more about throw. I did a side by side with a ROV Sportsman Extreme 1xAA and the Husky on lo is about as bright as the ROV, but with much more flood and spill. On hi its much brighter. I tried several times to get good beamshots but I just can't seem to get it to where you can make out some of the finer details of the different beams.
I popped her open and the emmiter is mounted on a white disk with the words Zhong Sheng written in gold. No idea what that means. I tried taking pics but I'm not set up for close ups.
I'd say this light is definatley worth the $5 and I'm going to give the other as a Christmas gift.
