50W HID = 50,000 Lumen???

Other than the fact that such a light would have to be about 200% efficient, no problem. The highest lumen output per watt are large Low Pressure Sodium, which can get to about 250 lumens/watt. A 100% efficient conversion only produces about 500 lumens per watt IIRC, so 1000 lumens per watt is absurd.

The reality is a 50 watt HID is unlikely to exceed 100 lumens/watt, big ones (400 and 1000 watt HID's) can do a little better. So figure the real output of the 50 watt HID is not likely to exceed 5000 lumens.

A quality D2S or D1S (GE, Philips or Osram) bulb driven at 50 watts produces ~106 lumens/watt. At 35 watts the efficiency is about 91 lumens per watt.

It has already been determined over there, that the number was off (50K) by a factor of 10 (10X)
