Northern Tool and I suspect other places are selling a 50W LED flashlight that runs for 20 hours on 2AA cells. Let's see. 20 hours times 50 watts is 1kWh and at 3V that means the AA cells they're using must be rated at 333AH. I want these cells for my Lambda Illuminator--it will run it for a month!

</sarcasm>

I bought some UV flashlights that looked nice, but both of them have switch problems. I don't want to spend the money on the Inova so I guess I'll let my cat-keeping friend have one of my two Arc AAA UVs on a long-term loan until I can trade it for something cheaper/brighter/bigger.

Cheers,

Richard

Just leave off the "mcd" or "mw", and wow - products sound much better

I contacted them, and they just ignore me

"Let the buyer beware"

That body is from a Streamlight AA flashlight! I had one of those that was purchased in 1993. It took a standard 3V PAR bulb and was in between a minmag AA and 2D mag...

I still have the light but the head became separated a few years ago when it fell out of my pocket when I was leaving the firing room and the automatic door closed right on the junction of the swivel head! I fixed it with CA adhesive but it broke later on and I retired it.

That would make a nice light to mount a LS but heatsinking would be fairly limited. The socket "hole" is a machined aluminum disk that could probably safely dissipate 1W from a HD emitter and there's enough room to squeeze in a decent optic. Hmmm...

Cheers!

I have an incandescent with that body. But the branding is "Roto-Beam" ... nice very solid brass and aluminum body.
I've seen that 50 Watt claim and assumed it's a copy error.

Hmmm... It might be possible to get more than 50 watts peak if you use a Xenon flashbulb with a quartz envelope (glass would block UV).
Problem is, it's only peak power; the average power will be quite low.

lol, I really wanted to suggest that they meant 50mw, but a quick google search for "CPS 50 UV Flashlight" reveals literally hundreds of places selling the same thing with the same specs, so the error must be on the documentation coming from these CPS guys...

Or perhaps someone let the marketing department have final say on the packaging copy /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
