6 months HEAVY usage update of Nitecore D10 Q5

For those of you who don't like strobe/sos on the Fenix lights, stop changing modes and you'll never see them. When you get to the output level you want, stop turning and no flashing mode will appear. As much as you guys hate strobe, we hate hearing about it all the time, especially in threads that have nothing to do with it.

I have to agree with Jimmy. I dont understand why so many love the GD version. I have the EX10 GD version and it is just like Jimmy describes. Bright white center which is great but a yellow ring and then slight purple tint. Also everyone keeps saying how there is no "ring" with the GD and how smooth the overall beam is. But if you really compare them I dont think what you get with the GD emitter is really an advantage. Since the spill on the GD version is so dim the enite spill area of the GD is actually about the same briteness as the "ring" area in the Cree version. Then with the Cree you still have the briter spill outside the dimmer "ring" resulting in more light overall even with the "ring ". True you dont really notice the "colors" of the GD when in real use but you dont really notice the Cree ring in real use either. The GD sort of reminds me of the KLC8 emitters. I think I would go with the Cree version of either EX10 or D10 next time. That being said the EX10 is still a great tough little light especially when you add the Russtang Ti bezel to it!!

LED-holic,

Here's to wishing you great success in your business! Do you carry the D10 on you most or all the time? If so, how? Just curious as to how the heavy users of this light prefer to carry it.

I like to keep mine in a holster when i leave the house.......but its always close too me no matter what, even when i go to the bathroom....lol.

Sometimes it is the smallest things you do to a flashlight that makes it go wonky and not drops to the ground or carrying it with keys for months.

There were a couple of occasions with my EX10 when I took the polished metal bezel off and cleaned the threads, my flashlight wouldn't turn on after I put everything back on. I had to repeat taking it off and putting it back on again a couple of times before it turns on again. I guess it lost the contact or something.

Otherwise, I like my EX10 but for some reason, I just wouldn't take it to hiking or camping as my only light.

Now I know most of you will say why take only one? Two is one and one is none....as few of you always say. But I believe a flashlight is one of those things that you should be able to bring only one and depend on it. Like you wouldn't bring two wallets just in case you had one stolen, or two cellphones because you think it would not work all of a sudden. Majority of us don't bring two wallets or cellphones, so why do we have to bring two flashlights?

It is because we WANT to. 🙂

I have the Cree version of the D10 and love it. Like others have said, yes, you will notice the typical cree rings if you shine it at a wall from a short distance, but in the month I have used mine I haven't noticed the cree rings. For example, if you shine at a tree from 20 feet away, you won't notice the cree rings because the texture of the branches in the tree makes it impossible to distinguish the "ring". Therefore, for practical use I think the Q5 D10 is better, IMHO though.
