A cause of lithium cell self-discharge has been discovered and it's surprising

Canadian researchers discovered that it's caused by a breakdown product of the PET insulating tape used inside the cells. Simply replacing the PET material with the slightly more expensive polypropylene could eliminate this cause of self-discharge.
