im looking for a bright not super bright small light thats under $50 that is simple to use for gifts i couldn't find any thing realy i was thinking a fenix up there to complicated for a gifts and i dont know whether i want to give an unreliable dx light as a gift

Fenix L2T, L1T? I put new batteries in mine and I was surprised how bright they are. Maybe not as bright as the latest and greatest but they are no less useful than they were a year ago.

Howdy Ben,
Well.... I certainly wouldn't call the Fenix L1D CE or L2D CE complicated. Put in batteries, push the button for on, push the button for off. And with just a very tiny bit of reading and coaching, I'll bet most folks could understand how to change into the mode that gives 3 levels of light too. At just a dollar or so over your $50 limit (with the CPF8 discount code), either of those would make excellent state-of-the-art gifts.

However, if you have a number of gifts to give.... I love my Jetbeam C-LE (1xAA with a Cree LED), and it is easy to learn to use too. Twist for on, twist for off...... and with a bit of reading, they can learn to change levels easily. I think you can find it at either Dealextreme, or Emilion's Workshop (at Emilion's site, sign up for an account and them e-mail them your CPF name and they will set your account up with a discount). At around $25 you can't go wrong with this light (only thing is, they might need to clean and lube the threads).

Probably the most important thing is to give something that uses common, easy to find batteries. That's why I generally choose either 1xAA or 2xAA lights for gifts. Happy hunting.

Why not a RR 1W...I see you have one. It's bright enough, and under $50...

It's been my experience that you run the risk of the light not being appreciated. Not everybody sees the value and utility of a good light.

I certainly wouldn't call the Fenix L1D CE or L2D CE complicated.

I agree on the LxD CE's interface being extremely easy to use. I thought it'd be a nightmare to master, but that was *before* owning an L1D. It couldn't be simpler, really.

I just bought an L1T for my mother (my bro already has one). A few weeks ago, I gave an E1 to a close friend. The availability of "regular" batteries for them weighed heavily into my decision.

I just gave my dad an L2T I did buy a P2D for him but i decided to keep it
He seems impressed with it though. It's better for him as he won't need to rely on me for cells he can get AA cells easy.

who will you give, a boy or a girl, or your parents?if you make a clear, than you can make a correct choice.some brand come from Asia should meet your price request, and especially the Fenix and other brands, but Fenix especially for the personal use, others focus on Tactial use, so if you just an ordinary one ,you can choose Fenix,if you need ,I can give you more advice:twothumbs

The Fenix L2D-CE interface sounds worse than it is in reality ( I have 2 ) - I like the OP reflector better. After a couple of on/off cycles I got used to the UI. I use the low level the most.

I have given the Fenix Civictor ( 1AA - Twist on/off, one brightness level, about $ 30- )

People seemed to like them.

What's wrong with a Jetbeam CL-E or it's equivalent at Dealextreme? Inexpensive, works extremely well with AA's, feels great in the hand and looks great. Would make a great gift for anyone and it should not cost more than $25 each.

I'm with GreenLED - depends on the giftee. A few might appreciate the L1D, but I'm betting the "average" recipient would be wowed by a MM with a NiteIze or similar drop in. That's <$15.

A little after I stumbled into CPF and got hooked, I gave my Mom an ARCaaa. A couple of weeks later I asked how she liked it. She'd given it to my 4year old neice "for her new purse". Never did find it.

Yes, buy a Jetbeam CL-E, you can get them for as low as 20$. (from Emilion)

If all else fails, this 1AA River Rock is only a Target away for about twenty bucks. Very solid construction and feels heavy in hand. High quality lanyard and a big pocket clip that allows you to wear it on a cap like a headlamp.
