Well I've been reading this great forum for several weeks and have decided to make the following purchase due to your (CPF) reviews and recommendations:ARC AAA,CMG infinity ultra,Surefire E2e ha,and 4-123 SF batteries. I already have several lights(PT tec40,Tikka,Brinkmann Ledgend LX, several AA mags, and others). Since you guys got me into this

I need you to help me with an excuse to tell my wife why I "need" these lights. What are your best excuses?

Thanks for a great forum. I did not know there were so many people addicted to lights. Hope you don't mind me saying it but I already feel at home here.

Just tell her it could be worse, you could collect [insert practically any other hobby here].

I mean look at it, the only real exensive/rare flashligts are the Maxabeam and the Collectors Brass Arc AAA

Just buy one at a time. After about a week tell her that the light you just bought isn't going to cut it, and buy another. Just keep that up until she catches on.

Then when she catches on say, "But I just need one more!"

Or use the line my wife uses: "It was such a good deal, it was on sale! I saved soo much money! I couldn't pass up such a great deal!"

For my wife, I use 2 'excuses.'

The sale one works some of the time.

I make sure to keep her involved. I tell her that one is for her. I purchased 2 photon IIs, and gave her one. Same with the 3 scorpions. I gave her one for the purse and 2 others went into the cars. (Amazingly she uses the Scorpion quite frequently.)

It works for all kinds of stuff. Today I went out and purchased $100+ worth of bicycle stuff, and picked up a pair of socks. She was happy.

Just tell her straight- " I have ----- dollars that I wish to invest in this". As long as you have the money for it then who cares what it is that you buy - after all , you can't take $$$ with you so enjoy what you have. Just don't overspend your budget. What you don't like sell on buyselltrade- the less mistaken purchess she sees the less ammo she's got.

I have to agree with T-Rex.

My wife used to say "What do you need all those flashlights for!?"

But since I started giving her a few to keep for her own her attitude has mellowed.

The last one I gave her is her favorite ... the Streamlight 4AA 7 led that I bought from brightguy.com
(I made sure I bought a duplicate for myself

I know, get rid of the wife! (ok just kidding

) I have it
soft, I don't have a wife-girlfreind-significant
whatever to nag me! I would highly reccomend it!
I plan on buying all the stuff I wan't before
I get attached to someone. (yeah right

The invest option sounds best this year. You can buy a flashlight, sell it a week later for 20% less, and still be ahead of the stock market.

Ask this_is_nascar. I think that's what he does.

Just tell her you're going to buy the thing whether she likes it or not!

(What's that? Oh--coming dear!).

Other hobbies:
- Power boats
- Own your own airplane
- Photography
- Car restoring
- Motorcycles

The list of potentials just goes on and on...

Any one of these will cost more in the first 10 minutes than just about a lifetime of flashlight collecting!

Plus, when the power goes off on a dark and stormy night...you're set!

Some of my excess collection (got it, experimented, enjoyed it, etc. etc.) eventually made it's way into gifts for various people. My daughter rented a cottage in a far away place recently where all of the wiring is on a single breaker. Naturally, the breaker popped when she had too many things on. She reached for her keys and flicked on the trusty Photon II that I gave her last Christmas. Instant light to go find that breaker box! (Oh yeah, when she told me that story, THAT was satisfying!)

My wife's favorite light... Infinity Ultra.
She's the one that got us back into camping after 25 years. There's a place to use some flashlights!
