FENIX SILVGLOW LIMITED EDITION AAA FLASHLIGHT
Screen Shot 2025-01-15 at 12.30.47 PM.png

Im guessing there will be a few people that might enjoy a fancy new Fenix with individual serial numbers..

Its a 3 mode twisty that always starts on Low. I have not tried it myself.. share if you do.. there is one post about it here

I am excited! I have fond memories of the tiny marvels Fenix LOP & LD01, and still have one in my travel backpack to carry a spare lithium L92 AAA. I also carried the Stainless Fenix E05 for a few years. I only stopped using those because of their cold white beams. I currently have a stainless 4-7s Revo on my keychain for its NW beam and for nostalgia reasons.

There really aren't many Neutral White AAA twistys these days. The E3A is excellent, and probably the Emisar too but only one mode really limits their usefulness.

Probably the most comparable is the Beta QRv3 which is great, but the cheapest version now is brass at $125.

I like that the Silvglow has no memory, starts on low, NW beam. The small round LED in a real reflector should throw better than the TIR's in the other keychain lights. 4000k is just right, hopefully the tint is good.

Both variants are available to me from a local E-tailer (same place I snagged all of my outlet LR35R's and TK30 LEP's):

Currently 19x available in Natural, and 29x in Colourblast.

...but an AAA light? Eh, I am a Fenix fan, but this feels like a pure collector's item or an art piece.
Are they actually good lights? I really prefer good utility over good looks (and the Colourblast looks good, no question).

AAA lights are immensely useful, especially with a good high CRI emitter. In all honesty I'd prefer aluminum over steel, but the light is still quite tempting.

I see the point in a physically small light, but an AAA vs something like a FireFlies PL47MU or Emisar D4K (both being 21700)?
Personally, I really don't see the point in something that small vs something with 10x the output if needed at 3x the size for most usecases.

Depends on the exact use, of course. I don't want any 21700 light on my keychain due to being too big, and I am looking at a Convoy T3 Titanium for that use. But for anything else? Not really.

Do please describe some of your AAA usecases for me. Perhaps there are some I haven't considered yet. :)

I always have at least 2 lights, 1 single AAA light in my left pocket and another larger light clipped to my right. Sometimes your dominant hand is preoccupied and you need a light. Having a light weight, thin light gives you options as far as how you can hold the light, whether it's by mouth, weaved between fingers, between your temple and hat, etc. They also pair well with throwier lights due to their floody nature.

You've described the exact use case, at least for me. The most useful light is the light I have with me. Granted the largest I might carry is an 18650 light, those aren't always in my pockets due to their size. I do have a AAA light always attached to my keys. When using my keys, it's nice to flip on the AAA light to light the path and then I wedge it between my middle and ring finger while my index and thumb hold the key to open the door. No need to use another hand to pull out a larger light; the whole action is one-handed.

Addendum: the quick release on the Beta QRv3 is also nice to have because I can pop it off my keychain and hand it to my kids so they can use it. With a primary or NiMH, I have no worries if it overheating or blinding them.

@defloyd77 @scalpel_ninja Interesting. Both of you describes only usecases where I currently use an 18650 or 21700 strapped on my belt - and I will admit, I feel both the 18650 or 21700 when driving. And the larger LR35R that I got holstered at work is removed from the belt unless I think I may need it due to both size and weight.

Been carrying an additional Wurkkos FC11C in a pocket full-time for the past week, and even that is frequently noticable when driving. On the keychain I have a Nitecore TIP SS, which I also always have in my pocket, but that doesn't emit the Lumens I want 8 times out of 10 (and definitely doesn't have the CRI I often want either). Hence the bigger lights for power (LR35R), and lately a smaller one (FC11C) for hCRI. So I'm effectively carrying 3 lights on me when at work these days.

I see your points, I definitely do. But I just don't think an AAA light got the power or runtime that I would need whenever I need a light at work (which frequently includes illuminating most of a storage room the size of 2 living rooms, because half the bulbs are busted).

Thank you for your inputs, both of you. I just got a Wurkkos TS10, that is waiting to be picked up at a nearby store. And I will be considering the form factor, as I am looking for something to replace the keychain TIP SS's with - both output power and CRI-wise. And something AAA / AA / 14500 is what I am looking at - TS10 Ti, D3AA Ti, Convoy T3 Ti etc.

But back to the thread topic...it will not be a Fenix Silvglow. It's too pretty to be bashed around in a pocket, and scraped against keys and whatnot. But as an art piece...yes, please!

I've had an AAA light on one of my two keychains since the ArcAAA days, before that a Photon and before that a Mag Solitaire. Always found them useful. I did try a tiny Roxyvon for two years on my primary keychain, but it kept turning itself on inside my pocket (double click to turn on). Generally about twice a year, but then 5 times in about 3 mo and so went back to AAA as primary. I also dind't find having to charge the Roxyvon with a USB cable all that convenient. It is easier to swap AAA. I moved the Roxyvon to the secondary keychain. (Which reminds me to go charge it)

I would also prefer Aluminum or titanium for the weight factor. The Revo is not bad in this regard but it's thinner walled than the Fenix, I carry a brass Beta around occasionally and don't really notice the weight though. The Brass and Stainless still look great after years of use.

Well . . . . .

Thanks to YOU ALL,
I've just ordered one of each color,
because I haven't bought *ANY* flashlights
since LAST YEAR ! ! !

Not that I have any NEED for more flashlights . . . .

I've got plenty to last me the rest of my life,
plus several re-incarnations.
 :lovecpf:
