I have four Rayovac Hybrid AAA cells that I picked up once, that had been sitting in a discharged state for a while. I was looking for some AAA cells to test chargers with, so I put two of them in my Duracell CEF-23 and the other two in my recently obtained Panasonic BQ-321.
Well, one of the CEF-23 batteries terminated early before it was even half charged. One of the BQ-321 batteries missed termination and got very hot. The other two terminated about right.
Do I blame the chargers or the batteries? I think probably the batteries. But it shows how easily you can have trouble with rechargeable batteries if you take for granted that everything is going to work right. At least the slow timed chargers out there will not have either problem of premature termination or missed termination. Perhaps there is something to be said for them after all.
