A2 Tube Thread Dimensions?

Never having seen or handled an A2 in person, I have some questions on its contruction.

Does the A2 have different size/style of fittings for the head and tailcap? I have seen a number of people mention successfully using the A2 with LiIon rechargeable batteries. My question is does the A2 tube use either the standard C/Z/P fittings for head and tail? Does it use the E series fittings (this appears more likely as it uses the MN02 bulb), however the tailcap looks more C/Z/P-like in the photos? I would seriously be interested in getting an A2 (particularly with the Atomic Chicken mod), but I really love 18mm LiIon rechargeable batteries and have been moving toward. Being able to use an A2 head and tailcap setup on either a Leef tube or a Mirage_Man 18650 tube setup is really be what I was looking for.

The A2 bezel is only compatable with the A2 body. The lamp is the MA02 which is different than the MN02 for E2e. The two-stage tailcap is interchangeable with the L1 and L2, but no other models. Two unprotected RCR123's can fit in the A2 tube, but educate yourself on the risks first. The A2 uses a buck type circuit and will not power up on one Li-ion, even if you could fit an 18650 in there.

Optimally I wanted to try a 2x18500 setup. I will not use unprotected LiIons in series, ever, as I have children in the house.

So protected RCR123's will work/fit? I'm not a giant fan of these, but I will not consider using disposable 123 batteries any more. I wonder if I can convince Leef or Mirage_Man to make a special run of tubes...

Sounds like your only options are primary CR123a batteries. The A2 body is not a "tube" like most other flashlights, it houses most of its circuitry in the head and would require quite a bit of engineering and modding to make a replacement.

Is the head removeable? Is there any circuitry in the tube itself?

the head is removeable only to change the lamp and or LED...the circuitry is potted inside the body

whats under the bezel threads is non-removeable

Wow, thanks for picture! It really makes sense now.

Now as far as the tail is concerned, is there any particular reason that an extension could not be made to be able to use 17mm batteries? Something like an A19 to fit these tubes for using a 2x17500 setup?

Im sure the possibilities are endless as to what mode of batteries you use in the body. but apart from most flashlights where you can overdrive, the A2's regulation circuit is very picky as to what goes in, it will do you no good to void the warranty and a burned circuit trying cells other than what is was designed for

That's a Shelby Chan photo of me holding an A2. It was going cheap - half-price deal or something...

well considering its only half an A2 you'd think...:grin2:
should've asked your permission before posting the pic:ohgeez:got more?:grin2:
nice ring btw

The SureFire photos on pk-e and my own "torch emporium" are there for information/reference/assistance. For my part as long as you don't hotlink them without permission, and don't claim they are your own (neither of which applies to you) then you are welcome to use my photos to further the understanding of SureFires.

So has there been any reports of someone damaging an A2 by using a pair of LiIon rechargeables?
