I googled a bit, other the some online sellers on eBay and Amazon, who else sells these AA to D adapters? Any brick and mortar stores sell these?

What kind of adapters are you looking for?

1AA to D?
3AA to D?
4AA to D?

Whoa!!! I did not even know these come in different types. Can 4AA's really fit into a D size cell?

I would like to purchase all of these, where can I get them, preferably from a mom and pop brick and mortar.

Do you mean those cylindrical D size plastic shelf which you put in an AA cell and then used the whole thing as a D cell?

How would I know, I have never seen one except in pictures which don't tell me much how AA's actually fit inside. But yes, I wish to only have AA's and when I need D's, I only wish to use the AA's as the actual power source.

they are out there, most rechargable ( energizer and duracell ) c and d nimh batteries are just AA cells in the c and d form factor.

4AAs are slightly larger/wider than a D cell.

I only know of online places that cell adapters. I've heard of people getting adapters from brick and mortar locations like Radio Shack (I haven't found any there, though), dollar stores, etc.

I've seen a pack with AA to C and AA to D, 4 each, in WalMart. Forget the brand (maybe Digital Concepts?), but they make batteries and chargers, too.

Ok.. As a newbie here, how much power can you really expect from a 1AA > D adapter? I would assume the runtime is significantly less. Am I wrong?

Thanks

Josh

A single AA cell has approx. 1/8 the capacitance of a D cell regardless of chemistry so I would expect about 1/8 the runtime.

If a more convenient dealer started selling the series-connected 3AA-1D holders, I guess they would sell a lot. LiteMania is the only one selling those right now, and deliverytime from Asia can really be a PITA ....

bout 20 threads below this one ...

please have a look and respond if you are interested, I am pretty serious about making some series wired 3AA>D adapters but I'm not seeing much activity on the feeler thread, so I may abandon the project...

I have a great design idea, the amount of labor involved is a little high, but I may go ahead with it anyways, provided I get a strong enough response from CPFers.
