Are there any good single AA twisty lights out there? There is the P1D and LOD from fenix, if only they made a AA twisty. I love twisties and have yet to find a single AA, besides the Zebralight H50. Got any recommendations?

Civictor v1. You can still get it from Lighthound. Uses a Luxeon emitter, so not as bright as the current Cree/SSC lights, but I love mine.

An older model Arc LSH with a single AA twisty body. Many are out there. First Runs used them with the mostly voltage regulated circuit that could run and run with a CR123, 2xAA body, and a single AA body. The Arc First Run can be modded to any type of circuit, but the original circuit with an updated Seoul P4 would be great, and a single AA could feed it, with lower output, of course, but still really bright.

The original JETBeam C-LE. My Fenix L1 is now a twisty, with a 2-stage resistor mod in the tailcap. The clicky switch remains, though, as the Hi-Lo selector. With a Seoul mod, it is just as bright as the Cree C-LE.

There are 2 kinds of twisties: "Crush your battery type" (CYB) which simply push solid metal contacts in on the battery; and the spring loaded type which constantly touch the battery ends and close the circuit when the end of the body touches a contact ring at the head (PCB) or tail. The CYB type is not as good because it conducts current through the threads, which can become gunked up over time and cause poor contact and flickering. The spring loaded type makes contact at the end of the body which is sealed inside and can be kept clean, so no flickering. Less important is no battery rattle with spring loaded type twisty, also.

Spring loaded type twisty lights include the Fenix L0x, E0, E1, E01, Fenix P1D, Fenix Civictor, Gerber Infinity Ultra, and the Rayovac 2AA Extreme Lux (tail twisty). The CYB type include the Jetbeam CLE, the old Fenix P1 model, Arc AAA, the old Arc LS, and the older Peak models (and I think also the current Peaks but I'm not sure).

I of course am partial to the spring loaded type twisty lights...

This is an excellent point about the 2-types of twisties. I'm glad you mentioned it. It's really key depending upon who is using the light. I NEVER lend out my "crusher" twisty type lights to anyone. Folks seem to want to crank the sucker down so hard and mess it up.

That's another good point about the 2 types of twisties... not loaning the "CYB" type out. Never considered that.

That said, I love my JetBeam C-LE v1.2 I'm not sure tho, but I don't think it's readily available anymore. :ironic:

Thanks all for the great recommendations. Nothing has caught my eye as of yet, but I need to look at all the specs a little closer. I really wish their was a LOD in AA. It's one of my favorite lights and one of my EDCs.

Thats a great suggestion for fenix,I carry the L1P for work. But would be seriously intrested in a LOD CE Q4 copycat for aa.

I'd be happy if they'd just bring back the Civictor with a Cree Q2 or Q3. Now, how hard could that be? Give it an OP reflector, Type II anodize it in colors, like the EO1, and they could call it the Civictor CE. Price it around $25 -$30, and they's sell a ton of them, and start cutting in on DX and KD business.

+1 on that. If they did it, I'd prefer they doubled the runtime instead of doubling the output, or some balance in between.

I think the Civictor will run about 2 hours before significant dimming on an L91 (then again, I could be wrong - I'm still on my first battery after almost 2 months). With a Cree emitter, even a p4, I think you'd get both more output and some increase in runtime. That is, assuming there isn't some other reason having to do with the circuitry that would prevent this. (I'm clueless about electronics.)
