I have a remote that burns through these Duracell LSD cells pretty fast. (A month or so) So I am going to buy another 4 to have on standby and am wondering

1. With a 1 month discharge, is LSD cells the ones I need?

2. The Duracell LSD AAA's with a white top are the same as eneloops?

3. What "forming" charge is good to use on them the first few charges?

I have a Harmony remote that eats a set of 4 Eneloop AAAs in about 2 months, so I keep a second set of 4 on standby specifically for that remote.

Everyone seems to feel that the white top, Made In Japan Duracells Pre-Charged cells are rebranded Eneloops.

As for a forming charge, I only put mine through a single break-in cycle on my Maha MH-C9000. I do this for 99% of my LSD batteries and have had no issues with them.

In AAA you might want to try GP ReCyko & report the results. :D

In AAA NiMH low self-discharge tests at dpReview. "In the AAA LSD graphs - the GP ReCyko AAA (GR8) came top, followed by the Maha Imedion AAA (IM8), then almost overlapping eneloop AAA (EN8) and Duracell Pre-Charged AAA (DP8) (this latter is not surprising, since made in Japan Duracell Pre-Charged are suspected re-badged eneloops)."

"The GP Recyko AAA were clear victors in the AAA category. As their availability is a bit difficult, it is comforting that the IMEDION offering was quite competitive, with the Duracell and Eneloop models only moderately less capable."

Can't swear to this - but I speculate that Kodak Pre-Charged may be re-badged GP ReCykos?

I've seen 2 packs of the Kodak Pre-Charged AAA at local WalMarts for $3.96 (= $7.92 for 4)

Yes, white top made in Japan Duracell Pre-Charged are confirmed re-badged eneloops -
black top made in China are not - please see - Duracell Pre-Charged Rechargeables - Buyer Advisory ...

What I have discovered is that too many electronic devices don't like the lower voltage (1.2V) of NMH or NiCad batteries, therefore they don't last as long. I have some weather statiosns where in the instructions it says don't use rechargeable batteries. When I put alkalines in them, the low battery indicators come on at 1.3V/cell. With a just off the charger NMH battery at 1.38V/cell you don't have a very long time before the low battery indicator comes on. The weather stations don't like the 1.7V of a lithium battery either, so I'm stuck with alkalines. Just because a device says the batteries are low, doesn't mean the battery is dead. The 1.3V cells above will work a very long time in other less voltage sensitive devices.

Yeah I have a feeling the fact they are 1.2V kills the remote faster. The first time they died it gave me a low battery warning, the last 2 times it just died.

Have you ever tried the e2 lithium batteries in the remote? They are only 5.60 at CC right now. If they last 2-3 times longer that would seem worth it.

If you're truly looking to maximize your remote battery life, just get a new remote - any of the "universal" models that have no LEDs/backlighting/display, just the plain jane buttons-only models; batteries will easily last many times longer than in the bells-and-whistles remotes.

I have a bland remote for a hi-fi unit that has a pair of "Best if used by 2003" Duracell alkalines in it, still works fine..

Yeah but my remote is cool. I was gonna get the same one for my parents but I guess I will get them the one with the Li-Ion built in.
