After getting tired of spraining my wrist everytime I went to use my Trek 7, I decided to give the LedCorp Turtlelite II a try. After using it, I don't understand why this light doesn't garner more press. It doesn't seem to be overly popular as it isn't offered on a lot of the LED sale sites such as glow-bug.com and I'm surprised as it's proven to be a great little light. At only 2 Leds I would say it has a good half of the light output of my 7 LED Trek 7. Which brings the question, why don't more LED flashlights use reflectors? I know that the Leds themselves have a reflector built in but think how much more brighter (I would imagine anyhow) the Trek 7 would be if it had the 7 LEDs clustered together in the center of an oversized reflective head? I'm speculating and am relatively ignorant on the subject myself, but does anybody have any expertise or opinions on this subject?

P.S. Great posts and testing of the Arc light. I'm reservation number 546 myself. Perhaps I'll see one before Memorial Day.

You are right, several of the new multi led lights coming out do have reflectors, Nightbusters and the 6 LED Photon are two that jump to mind. If you want to you can spray paint the ring peice in your Expedition with chrome paint to give it somewhat of a reflector, brighten it up a little.

The samples I've been provided already have shiny "reflector" rings. Let's see if I can dig up a picture.

Huh? 6 LED Photon?! Would that be the Fusion? Nightbuster?? Where can I see pictures of theses flashlights?

Craig,

Which flashlight is that a picture of?

Doug

Doug, hit your back browser arrow and scroll down a little...look for Photon Fusion and below that NightBuster 8x.

That is either a Trek 1400 or 1900.
I had them open and under the camera to document a little modification I made to them about a week ago - one that the manufacture is now doing to all their lights.

I agree. The Turtlelite 2 has it all. It is bright for a 2 LED light (thanks a lot to it's very good reflector), it is waterproof (not just water resistant), it floats in water, it has a ring in the but that can be used for hanging from the ceiling of a tent, it burns for 2 and a half days straight on 4 standard alkalines, and my personal favorite, the very nice quality and easy to use (with just one hand) recessed push button switch. Other LED light manufacturers could learn some great lessons from the humble little Turtlelite 2. Also, since this light takes AA's you can put lithium batteries in it and keep it in the car for a decade and still get reliable light from it. No wonder this is still my favorite little light.

I like my Turtle II also. In fact I like the other 2 bulbs that I got from LEDcorp. I took the four cell one and put it in a dorcy light just like the Turtle II. My wife has pretty much taken control of that one. I got the 3 cell one in my 3D mag. It does a good job.
They produce a good quality product at a great price.

I can see your point that the Turtlelite 2 doesn't get the credit it deserves. However one of the main reasons why I didn't buy it is because there were very few retailers online that seemed to be selling it. The ledcorp webpage looks like it was made without much attentionAlso, most of the products from LedCorp just seemed kinda cheap, particularly the keychain led light.

My feel is that I don't want to spend $20+ dollars on a not-so well known company. A company such as Streamlight which sells high-end flashlights to professionals lends a lot more credibility to its lights such as the batonlite. That's my take on it.

You've got a credible analysis of this light on the LED Museum website. You have personal testimonials here... I don't think your reasoning is valid. Not only is it a good product, but they stand behind their bulbs. I had a bulb burn out. I sent it in and it was immediately replaced, no questions asked.
Are you aware that Dorcy Flashlights are using the LEDcorp bulb?

I'm just now finally getting around to ordering the Turtle II after reading the reviews and positive comments. I like the idea of keeping it in the car as an emergency light with lithium batteries installed.

It was and is a great little light but with the choices available now, I would try an Inova X5 instead. Unless the Turtle lite has come down in price, it is relatively expensive for a two led light. Inova surely must be brighter, uses lithium cells by default so will be good in cold and although not the run time of the Turtle lite, I'm sure quite ample. Having said that, the Turtle lite is still by my side on the nightstand.

Not only is ledcorp a great company (like arcflashlight), they have excellent knowledge of the most up-to-date led technology (like luxeon stars) and really do make great (if simple) products that are tested very thoroughly...

In fact, they've done some pretty interesting things with led's, like using led's to replace car headlights!!! (No, he's not selling this, though...too expensive to manufacture the special optics.)

The turtlelight II I bought for my mom is still working fine a year later...with the same batteries...and she walks her dogs every single night with this light!

I have one T1 and t2 and they never see the dark of night - it is an adequate light, but really, I don't think the quality is very good at all. It is a very cheap plastic body (a shared one at that) with PR based LED's - really, it is just a simplest form of mod that anyone in here could do. I just don't find it as interesting as an endless number of other lights.

Sorry to be pessimistic about this light, but........

The T2 is a very nice light. Sits on top of my fridge and it's what I grab anytime I need more than my Photon. Respectable light output and long runtime. It's not very small and doesn't have tons of LED's or fancy circuits, so it's not quite flashy enough to get a lot of write-ups. On the othe hand I don't like the T1 at all, because of its extremely narrow beam.
