Advice for problem w/Novatac

Hi folks, been lurking here for a while trying to soak up on the knowledge weaved thru the site. Bought a Novatac 120T about a month ago, put in my third battery Saturday and it quit working.

About the time I changed the battery ( primary ), I also greased the threads with Silicone Grease as recommended. After inserting the battery and getting the tail cap screwed down by working the clicker I got the light to flash a couple of times but could not keep it running.

I played with the cap, tightening / trying the clicker, loosening and doing the same, no light. Checked battery, voltage is good, + to head, tried other working batteries, no change.

I sent an E mail to Novatac customer service Sunday morning, no response as of Thursday nite. I'm open to suggestions, this is an expensive way to step into something soft and aromatic.

One: take tissue/cloth, wipe off excess grease.
Two: take out battery spring and "unroll" a little i.e. grab both ends and twist away from each other as if you were trying to enlarge the spring (you are), re insert spring.
Three: put back together.
Four: tun on.
 
:welcome: If none of the above works try calling Jim at Novatac on the phone. Or send another email - consider that certain email addresses hit the SPAM filter and never get through so you can always try a different email account. Some of the Novatacs needed the LE tightened up a bit more IIRC. I didn't check to see what was in the link above but I think a needle nose plier might be needed to tighten it a bit.
 
Just to put in a word of praise for Jim at NovTac. He was great when I contacted him with trouble I was having. I am pretty sure he IS the service department, so it might take a day or two, but I would expect him to resolve the trouble.

BTW, I would agree with others here that it is a contact problem.

Folks, thanks for the suggestions and connection to the thread. Tried "unwinding" the spring, no change. Very little grease to lube, still no light.

Called Novatac and spoke with Jesse. He told me to return the light to the factory and it left in today's Fed Ex. Jesse also told me Jim is no longer with them.

They are to check out the light, and return. Been thinking about the HDS, but one thing at a time.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. Nothing worked. I sent the light back to Jesse for service, he got it working and returned it. I didn't use it much after getting it back, and the battery went dead ( primary ) with almost no use in a few days. After changing batteries all I seem to get is a quick bright flash and then a steady, slow, dim pulsing.

I don't have these problems with my other lights. I'm very disappointed in the Novatac 120T. Guess I get to try the factory again or drop $135.00 in the recycle bin.

The bezel is on so tight I can't get it to move to see if anything is loose at that end as was suggested in one of the posts. I screw in the tailcap so tight its all I can do to get it off without using channel locks. Stretching the spring did no good. Any other thoughts out there?

Sorry to hear you are still having problems with your 120T. I will say this, don't give up.... I had to send my original 120P back for replacement too. Luckily the second one worked fine..... although it was still a bit temperamental at first... until I did all the little tune-up tips I kept reading about. Now I've had in my pocket everyday for almost a year with zero problems of any kind... and believe me it gets some rough use.

It's possible you simply got a dud light..... and just like cars...... it might not act up in the shop.... only when you've got it on the road.... or in your case in your pocket.

I didn't see you mention anywhere if you checked both the tail cap retaining ring and light engine retaining ring. If you look in the tail cap, it's that little, thin, silver disc with 4 notches on opposite sides. That holds the tail switch assembly in place and needs to be tight. You can use needle nose pliers or even tweezers.... just tighten to the right.

You will see the same silver disc inside the head, where the head meets the battery tube. You don't need to mess with the bezel for this.

Then of course, go ahead and re-clean the threads, the ends of the spring, and anywhere the battery contacts. As far as the spring goes, it's probably best to unwind it a bit, rather than stretching it... just to make sure it floats freely in the tube around the battery.

Also, be sure and leave the battery out of the light for at least 10 minutes.

If all these tips fail to get you going... I'd contact Jesse at NovaTac again and request that he send you a pre-paid shipping label to get the light back for replacement, not repair.

Do keep in mind that this is a sophisticated light, and occasionally one will have problems..... that's why it's always good to have a lifetime warranty and a good customer service department.
