guys im using an led lenser h7 at the moment and the batteries are always running low.

what would you guys recommend (it will be used for close up electrical work)

Hi there, check out armytek(some neutral white options for colour renditions, more so being electrical) Also check some head lamps from Fenix and Nitecore.

If you do decide to go lithium cell(far better performance and run times, think 4/5 xAA kind of power but more compact 4.2v cell).

Have a search, read up regarding the safety side, good branded cells(keeppower/xtar/eagletac/samsung/LG/........etc) and charger(xtar/nitecore) as examples.

Good luck, check review section out, some armyteks can be used as flashlights too,so can be attached to head band,or removed when needed, that would be my start for a head lamp.
One example, check other versions too as 2013

Zebralight H602w (or 600Fw MkII) for the flood beam, lots of brightness adjustability and long battery life (18650 LiIon).

Take it easy,
Bob

thanks im going to look at the zebralight is there any with a wheel or similar to select brightness?

there are days that it will be used for 6+ hours and i would like it fool proof that it will last that long (or is there one where it is easy to change the driver to allow this)

The Zebralights all use a pushbutton for mode selection, as far as I know....

I have headlamps from Black Diamond, Petzl, Princeton Tec and Fenix. I bought my first Zebralight this year and it has easily become my favorite.

Take it easy,
Bob
