I wonder why noone except ISP Korea is making mid-power LED's (100 mA say) in standard 5mm packages. ISP's have nice color but are reportedly a lot less efficient than Luxeons. A Lumileds or Cree version would be fantastic.

Its a terrible package for high heat load applications, spider package was one idea developed to run the dice up to higher power with more heatsinking.

Well, for 5mm packages, it is good to note that they typically run 350 C/W, on the ones I've looked at.

This package here is only 300 C/W.

Yes, the spider/superflux is nicer at 200 C/W.

Though a similiar sized SMT package is the CREE XL7090, at 17 C/W or so.

Thats for starters...
