I am looking at getting an Aleph 1 TK from the Sandwich Shoppe. The specs are:

27mm head
Nexgen 750 Light Engine
1X123 power
15 ohm McE2S tailcap 2-stage switch.

How will this compare in throw to a Surefire L1 white with the KL4 style head with the optic ? The L1 has flat sides milled on the body and was bought about 2 weeks ago.

Looking at the runtimes from McGizmo's site I am also considering the A1 with a DB917 and 2x123 power. How much better would throw be and would heat be an issue with this setup?
I have been looking through the CPF posts but would like to hear from people with these setups.

not a fair comparison. Aleph will blow L1 away for throw.

you would be comparing a 27mm reflector with an smaller optic. also aleph is driven at 750 milliamp VS aprox. 420 milliamps with L1.

Where L1 does shine is form factor and quality build.

A2
NG550
1x123
15 ohm

That would be more compaiable to the SF model I would assume. However you still get two levels of brightness and a better light in my opinion, with the Aleph.

If you want throw get an A3 they are truly awesome.

I have an L1 right now. It is a good little light but I want to get something with more throw. The A1 head doesn't look to be too bulky and the reflector should give it good throw from what I have read.

PJ,

The Aleph I, if you can live with the slight increase in diameter, will stomp the L1 in throw, sidespill, and general usefulness. Go for it, you won't be disappointed. If fact, if you like the over all output of the L1, but just want more performance, get an Aleph I on the 1X123 body with a NexGen400 or 500. With the 400 you'll get about 2 hours of runtime. At 500, about 1.5 hours and you'll get great throw with very good sidespill. Of course, it will be brighter at 750, but runtime will suffer.

I have an Aleph1 head on an E2d and its my favorite light. I would kill someone if they tried to part me from it.

It was Brother-in-Law's B'Day and I bought a Aleph 1 TK NexGen 750 1x123 from the Shoppe and put it in a RipOff 150 pouch. I tossed him a curve though! He has to choose between it and a PR-T Lux-V BB750 1x123 with a 15 ohm McE2S in another RipOff 150 pouch also! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I explained the differences in the two lights like throw, runtime, heat, etc. No time limit set for the choice.

Unless my sister got the story wrong, it sounds like he picked the Aleph1.

I got an AlephI/2x123/917ma for Xmas. This is an amazing light- one of my most valued and useful lights. The throw is better than a 3D Mag/LuxIII mod and will light up highway markers at a quarter mile. Lowbeam is adequate for most tasks and you could walk on a woods trail easily. Heat does not seem to be a big issue with this light tho I use the high beam only momentarily. Very happy with this setup.

Oh, did I mention that I put in a set of *old* CR123 at Xmas. These batts were dated 1996. Here it is in late February and the light has been used every single day since I recieved it. Still bright on original batts and showing no signs of dying out.

StuU---Stop that! I am seriously considering buying that same light and your enthusiasm is not helping my wallet! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK. I have an Aleph 1 on order from the Sandwich Shoppe.
It is the 1x123 but I am getting an NG500 instead of the 750. The L1 is a nice light but I wanted a little more throw.
If the 500 isn't quite enough I can always get an NG1000 and then an A3 bezel and then a 2x123 power pack and then...

Uh oh, I think it has started.

My first Aleph light was a Ha-Nat, (1xCR123), Aleph2 with an NG500 and tritium in tailcap by McGizmo................
2nd was an Aleph1 (1xCR123),Gold Nitrided with ArcMania Super Conveter 600........THEN the Aleph 1 with DB917 (2xCR123) and picked up a Aleph3 head (wonderful!)...........then ALeph 1 ("bare" by Chop and modified head) NG 677, then NEW flared CR2 body to make a smaller 1st light............of course NEEDED a FT Tailcap (see picture posted in McGizmo thread "Aleph CR2 Flared")!

Now What's Next?? and

PJ.......................GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got my A1 on Saturday. Man is this a cool little light!. It outthrows the L1 by a little bit but the beam is wider and somewhat whiter. I shine it on a neigbors shed so I am only estimating on this. Cheers to the Sandwich Shoppe for getting it out quickly. I ordered a completed assembly and then emailed them asking about swapping the LE out for an NG500. They emailed me back to confirm and had the light out the next day. I think the A3/DB917/2x123 combo may be next with a side of A2 bezel.
