Emergency / Survival Gear. After I found this website, all I ever looked for / bought online was flashlights. But I've branched out to Emergency / Survival Gear. Go to any website that talks about emergency prep kits and a flashlight is pretty much always on the list of must have items. I figured I might as well get the other items on the list and be prepared for more emergency situations that come up.

What do you consider to be the most important piece of survival gear that is worth collecting?

Don't complain its cheaper then collecting guns which in turn is much cheaper then a heroin and hooker habit. Its all about degrees....:D

Have you looked at my signature line? Would you be surprised if I told you that GreenLED named me?

I'm wondering, did you originally intend your handle to represent a smiley text shortcut meaning "happier than?" :)= happy, doesn't it?

Edit: after reading my post (many hours later), I noticed that a happy faced smiley actually did appear in place of the characters before "=happy", so I guess they do.

Do you know how challenging it is for me to phrase the answer to your question in the form of a question?

Wouldn't it be cool if I was that clever?

Why on earth would somebody STEAL your collection of glass insulators ?

Which reminds me of this little gem:

"Wire you insulate ? Don't you know when to be Ohm ?"

Well I suppose you wouldn't be collecting Emergency / Survival gear in a strict sense. If you had the proper tools and right amount of supplies to get you through an emergency, you probably wouldn't need to collect for example; first-aid kits, or radios.

But the first thing that comes to mind though for collecting anything related to Emergency / Survival gear would be anything made by Peter Atwood. His tools are definitely worth collecting.

Here's a hint: If you see more than one item you want, NEVER wait for all of those items to come in stock at the same time before you buy them (As that will probably never happen). Buy any item you want as soon as it becomes available (I learned this from experience). This probably runs contrary to how you might purchase things from other websites but its necessary since Mr. Atwood makes pretty much everything himself.

Besides Atwood stuff, for a short while I was also on a buying spree of Maxpedition gear. Gotta carry around your lights and emergency gear somehow.

And if you just have that much money sitting around waiting to be spent, here are some of my favorite websites to buy Emergency / Survival gear from:

Wow !

CampSaver sells the Mini-Mag 2AA "classic" for $16.95 !

And that's not even the version with the holster included !

Just the flashlight, and 2 AA alkalines.

Ouch !

Huh, that is a bad price for the 2AA Mini-Mag. Good thing I never buy Mini-Mags from Campsaver. They're good for other things though, and I usually wait til they have sales.

even though survival and recreation are two topics, I pack fireworks when I think of certain survival gears
too bad they don't sell the old smoke bombs I've been used to lighting back before 9/11's July 4. its a long cylindrical tube....and puffs out plenty of smoke for a good 3 minutes or so.....nowadays the smoke bombs either fails to werk...or simply fizzes smoke for 5 seconds.:scowl:

also, theres a few of those magnesium/phosphorus flashers in altoid cans, dunno what they could be used for....except maybe for close signaling?

I am making my wife sick because of my CPF infection. I am on here everyday, multiple times. I spread some good info, and a lot of BS (not on purpose :green:). Is it bad that I am wasting away time reading about flashlights, Vf calculations, and "I hate strobe" threads? You have to have some kind of passion. I like my passion to be really bright, and it must have a long runtime.

If we are all , then doesn't that mean we are "normal"? We are just a different section of "normal".
