Hi,

I've just received a couple of the newer Allteamgo ebay seller's zoomable head 200 lumen Cree Q5 bike lights:

Nice little units but very rough and ready build quality so I'd like to get inside and clean the lens and reflector which have a lot of greasy fingermarks, etc. Probably won't affect the output but it brings me out all OCD :)

Does anyone know how to get into the head on these zoomable (focussing) models? I'm completely new to the whole LED torch thing. The tailcap with the switch on unscrews and there's a big blob of hotmelt to support the battery cable. If I remove that will it be possible to get into the head from inside by removing the LED module thingy or is there an easier way to remove the head from outside. Has a pretty firm feeling stop at either end of its travel (screws in and out to focus).

Sorry if this info is available elsewhere on the forums, I don't know enough to know the manufacturer's name to search properly. I assume there is a conventional longer-tube version of this bike light available as a hand-held torch without the external battery pack.

OK, I've answered my own question without destroying anything? For future reference for anyone buying one of these, it's dead easy to open the head and clean the lens. There's a very, very fine line around the head of the torch about 3mm from the front, it doesn't appear inside the lens shroud bit so I didn't realise it was a separation point. The whole of the front including the lens screws off here, sealed with an O-ring. I did the first with pliers and a soft cloth but once I saw inside I did the second just by hand so try finger pressure first.

Polished the aluminium plate around the LED and got all the gunk off the lens except some minor adhesive marks at the edge. Big improvement in finish but probably won't affect light output!

Please do tell about the light output, and publish beam shots if you can. I am very curious...I was going to order some for my wife and I, but was worried that the projector lens would make the light worthless. Their other model the b200 had received good reviews for a back up light.

Old Chap - this might be a bit late, but this light really is very good indeed - its got a lovely great big uniform pool of pure flood light. This I believe makes it FAR superior to any of the Cree torches as they tend to have rather a focussed hotspot. I have one of these Cree Q5s mounted on the bars - and another zoomable torch on my crash helmet (almost identical design - you'll find it on DX for about £12! - this one doesn't have a remote battery pack - but has uses a lithium 18650 with a Cree Q4 - now I reckon this light is slightly brighter, it's certainly easier to use due to the lack of battery pack, it also lasts about 2 hours which is comparable to the Q5. BUT you have to go down the tricky Lithium road!!

These two torches give you easily enough light to blast around single track at day light speeds. About 400 lumens in all I reckon.
