Aluminum Reflector for D Mag and LED drop ins?

a while ago I bought a 3D maglite and a 2AA maglite.

The mini mag had a nice LED in it, I can't remember what it was (it had a blue base). The mini mag is now lost.

Furthermore the ROP mod kind of died off when I went back to school and quantum physics started kicking my butt. So now I have 8 AA sized recharable batteries 6 Pelican bulbs one 3D maglite with a melted plastic reflector and resistance mods.

To sum it up I have NOOO flashlights and im going to go camping next week (btw, you can't do this without a flashlight).

The deal is that I am going to buy another 3D maglite and Mini Mag (I can get these for 20 bucks as a package).

What I want is a led dropin for the minimag, and a nice drop in for the 3D mag. The mini mag drop in should give me something like 48 hours of run time on alkaline batteries. The 3D led drop in has to be brighter then the stock bulb and then maximize run time.

Lastly: Where can I find an aluminum reflector to finish my ROP mod?

thanks

thank you its really cool to know that I can finish the mod now (or later). I am having trouble with their search though, is it possible they also sell this reflector in smooth? i would prefer maximum throw.

thanks

I can find the one with a 15mm opening - this does leave a significant gap around the bulb though. It looks like they decided to make SMO with 15mm & OP with 8.3mm and 15mm openings - I think these are the only 3 options in the new V3.1 Aluminium reflectors.

I use a 15mm opening for my Osram bulb hotwires, but the 8.3mm for my ROP bulbs. I like the OP reflector, gives a very nice beam and there is still lots of throw. I don't really understand why maximum throw is so sought after - I usually have a greater need to illuminate stuff near me than stuff a long way away.

I really love my 2D Mag with ROP low bulb, OP reflector, UCL lens and 2 x D Li-ion cells. It has easily 2 hours runtime, good brightness, nice beam, nice colour of light and the 2D Mags feel just right in the hand. This is my 'go to' incan light. Currently my Mag623 is my show off light - it can light newspaper on fire and is insanely bright, but with around 10 minutes run time it is not the sort of torch for daily use. I have a 3D that I haven't modified yet, when you look at the standard output and compare it to a ROP Low . . . well even my 6D was a joke on the standard bulb compared to my ROP Low, but my 6D is now my ROP High so it has a respectable output in keeping with its size. Both my ROP Mags have OP reflectors - not that much loss in throw for a huge improvement in beam appearance IMO.

I want max throw cause I have another light for flood work. Oh well OP it is, how much of a difference can it be?

My ROP is going to primarily be on LOW and it uses a 3D body with 12 AA cells shuffed in there (honed out body makes a square of 4 fit). That should provide twice the run time compared to your 2D (I Hope). How much run time do you get on the LOW 2D? thanks

any thoughts on the LED drop in for the MAG 3D, id like to have something with regulated output that maintaince focusability is no less bright then stock bulb and under 20 bucks. Am I asking for too much?

I don't think you will get twice the run time. I have 7.4 volts and 5000mAh from 2 Li-ion D cells. Theoretically I should get 2 1/2 hours from a full charge at 2 amp draw.

cool, I didn't wanna get into messing with liions though.. to iffy...

im using 2400 mAh cells so that should be a total of about 5000 mAh as well, sounds like a fun light.

I have never thought of Li-ions as iffy, if I did then what would I do about my cellphone or my laptop?
