Finally got off my backside an bought a new EDC light to replace a Fenix PD22.

Yup, a Hank light... the D4V2 2-channel w/ SST20 4k and W1 6k. Thinking I'm doing the battery stuff right too...

Only had it less than 24 hours, but I'm happy enough. It's a bit more chunky than the 123 powered Fenix, certainly weighs more, but the light output is phenomenal against that old PD22. I was stunned at the difference last night when I lit up the ~300' to my shop building. Even the SST20's did a better job than whatever's in the old PD22.

My goals were simple enough, wanted EDC size since I'm used to EDC. Wanted higher CRI/warmer light as the Fenix washed things out a lot and my eyes have gotten old enough that it bugged me (or outright made the light worthless in a couple cases). Really wanted to get off the disposable 123 bandwagon, though I have a few things that still use them... they weren't eating the batteries though. And hey, getting a light with warm flood AND bright throw? And a portable battery bank as a changer? I'm not complaining.

I do have a question though, about Anduril since I've never been exposed to it before. On the strobe modes, is there a way to set the preferred channel? It's defaulting to the W1's and and I'd rather the SST20's (at least for storm and candlelight). Or even better, can EACH have a different set of emitters? I haven't been able to find that info...

I'm not much of a poster here, but I do lurk/read a lot.... so thanks for the tons of info y'all put down.

This page is always helpful: https://ivanthinking.net/thoughts/anduril2-manual/

I don't think you can set a preferred channel for the strobe modes. Just checked my two channel 219sw45 / W1 and it looks like most of the strobe modes just use both channels with the exception of the candle mode which uses the selected channel (3H can also switch between channels in this mode).

Fenix is the brand that really got my attention when it came to "more expensive" lights - as opposed to the $10 maglites I used to buy in the stores many years ago.

Fenix has treated me well both in terms of lights and the customer service, I still have a TK75 from 2018 if memory serves and it works just as well today as back then.

I've since moved on to other brands such as malkoff, HDS and modlite. But I'll always have a sweet spot for fenix AND foursevens (sadly they are no longer around).

I've heard very good things about your d4v2 but I myself have zero experience with it, so couldn't speak to anything having to do with it, I apologize!

I still use a pd22 and a pd22ue as my EDC at work lights.
I hate the rubber side switch, but they refuse to die so I keep using them.
Yes I agree haha, I only do lights with tail cap switches… only have 2 lights in the collection with side switches and I never really use them…. One being my Fenix tk75 which I use as a lamp on my bed side nowadays haha

Love/hate with tail cap switches... can't do a tail stand (or the PD22 wouldn't), but after a decade of use, it's just the most natural feeling in the world to hit it with my thumb. I'll get over it though.... give me a decade of time on this D4V2 and I'm sure I'll feel like anything different is unnatural too. :D I just hope this light can make it a decade, even with the occasional tumble in the laundry.

My first 3 "real" lights were all Fenix... they ran some sort of a discount with the US Olympic groups (was an active 10m pistol shooter at that time), so I bought the PD22, a smaller 'keychain' light that probably still has the first CR123 still in it, lives in the ashtray of my van, and a headlamp that's still kicking but the strap is 100% stretched to worthlessness, and I'm not a fan of the AA/AAA batteries (can't remember, have a Petzl that uses the other battery type). Just a hassle when doing anything more than a single day out and back. More of my reasoning behind getting into the 18650's that have more energy density and can be used between multiple lights. I only want to carry 1 type of battery for any/all of my lights.

David Chow is back behind the wheel of a different flashlight company. I think he traded up. It looks like he has a much larger R&D budget now. I'm not sure if it's public information?

Oh, W_O_W ! ! !

That's *WONDERFUL* !
:)

So, kindly just Whisper it into our
collective ears here, won't you please ?

We promise NOT to tell anyone . . . .
