I've been looking for a watch, and here I find that Amazon.com has several that sell for about 1/2 to 1/3 of what I can find locally.

This is the item

I don't know if I can trust Amazon, could I get some opinions to help me out?

Thank You!

cant trust amazon? ive literally bought several hundreds of items from them over several years, and have never had a problem. easy returns too. no worries, buy with confidence!

i caveat this with purchases direct from amazon, and not from their related sellers. although ive never had a problem with those either, but trust amazon more.

Yes of course as poster number two said. I have happened to personally bought two cheapo watches off of Amazon. I usually pick the free super saver when available and still get it within a week.

Never a problem with Amazon items, but some from their affiliates ,but also some great service from some affiliates. This one has decent rating.

Had great luck with Amazon. Purchased a watch from Jomashop through Amazon. With their A to Z guarantee, I returned it without a problem. It was listed wrong on the website.

That watch sells for ~$79 at my local Target store. That Amazon price is a very good deal. I think the only way to beat that price is to take your chances on Ebay, but even then I don't see that watch ending for less than ~$45 on an auction. The inflated B/M price will keep its auction value up around the $45-55 range.

I have no problems buying stuff on Amazon. I play it safe and ONLY buy direct from Amazon, not one of its business partners.

You might want to take a close look at your local Target store, and get your hands on it first before placing a www order. IIRC that watch has a solid bracelet and folded end links, and about a 42mm bezel diameter. (I could be wrong on this... the middle links might be folded steel) It sits pretty flat on the wrist and despite the folded end links, its not as "clangy" as other similarly priced, Asian-origin watches I have seen.

I'd love to check it out at my local Target, but they don't carry it. Wal-mart used to, but just recently dropped them. :(

I lost track of how many things I have bought from Amazon, but am sure it is many thousands of items. I have never had a single issue I could not resolve with them. Always check the reseller recent and past ratings. Don't compromise on ratings.

To OP, it is up to you, but personally, I would not use a seller that has that many negative ratings that you linked.
I almost always use 95% positive as my cutoff (or higher if a low sales count number).

One tip which is nearly impossible to find on their website is the Amazon.com phone number. They have great support in working out unusual circumstances....and I have called for help about 15 times over the years.

Ooh wait a minute... that watch is NOT being sold by Amazon, but by one of its partners. Proceed with caution.

Nice watch, poor performing seller... +1 vote AGAINST.

Thanks for the number, I have a feeling that it could be very useful :)

I am also worried about the seller's rating, but I did notice that it ships from an Amazon fulfilment center. If I understand this correctly, it means that amazon already has the watch, and that should make it somewhat more reliable.

Would one of the other sellers be more reliable? (namely watchzone or chelsea)

I've only bought directly from Amazon with no problems. I suspect they'll work out some issues with resellers since it is their portal and their name on the masthead.

As an aside, you may want to take a look at www.campmor.com in their hot deals section. They have a lot of Timex watches at excellent prices and the few things I've ordered have been fulfilled quickly and without hassle.

I guess at the price for the watch, I'd be better off selling it on ebay than returning it if I found a problem with it. I'm hoping to find a nearby target or walmart that still has one on hand, so I can look at it before buying. I guess I'm not out much more that time waiting (provided I receive it in working condition) if I do order it.

Thanks again! The advice is greatly appreciated. :D

Update: I bought this at Target for a reasonable price. The same watch at walmart had a much smaller band, so I had initially discounted it.
