Has anyone that owns the N30 found a rigid foam mounted case to store/pack it in? I thought about maybe buying a Pelican but don't really know what it takes to cut the foam to fit.

Nevermind the fact that Pelican is awfully proud of their cases. LoL

So, any suggestions? Want something I can stick the light (and the spare battery and charger) into and put it in the back seat and not worry about any damage being done to it.

A Pelican case would work real well, You would just need to cut out the foam to fit the N30. Be sure to get the right size for the lights and whatever extras you would be putting into it. A large sharp chef's knife 6" - 10" will cut straight lines real nice in the foam of a pelican case. Just be sure it is real sharp. You will also want to use a knife with a straight edge so it slices through the foam and does not tear chuncks out of the foam as it cuts.

Thanks for the info. Pardon the ignorance but I have further questions regarding things.

How do you get the cut across the bottom? In other words, you have the pattern cut that you need in order to fit the profile of the light. How do you get that foam removed? Does my question make sense?

I have other questions but I think I can figure them out on my own.

The foam is removeable and replaceable.
The foam in Pelican cases has three levels

A bottom level which itself may be several .5" layers.
A middle level that you use to make the custom fit cutout sections.
A top egshell level.

Your case may come with Pick & Pull foam.
If your case has the pick & pluck foam you just mark appropriately and pull out the plugs as needed. Follow the instructions in the link below.

If you need to do cutting and you are referring to cutting across the bottom of your cut so the cut out section properly slides out, you simply do this cutting over cardboard so the tip of your sharp knife can go through all of the foam.
If you are not used to cutting foam, it is definitely safest to cut with the foam on a level flat surface on top of cardboard. Only cut an inch or so deep per pass. You can use the fingers in for free hand ABOVE the knife ON TOP of the foam to separate the foam for successive deeper cuts.

You also may find it easier to cut from the corners to the center of each side after an initial scoring cut.

Thanks for all the help.

Now, just to find the size I need.

I figure I'll lay out the light, extra battery, and charger and take measurements of those three items. Then find the case that is appropriate.
