well here obviously the vector POB is a bit heavy, but it gets 5 stars on the review site and is F*@$*NG bright as S*%# according to the same review, Should I buy the vector or the amondotec. Please state your pros and cons that come to mind about these two lights.

Could you provide a link to the specific Vector you are referring to.

well look at your size comparisons. the amondo seems to be more compact.
but then again, why not shell out a little bit more for a tube 35w HID on ebay for 350usd

2000xlt,

That is the light known around here as the Sam's HID.
The person selling it probably got a quantity on sale from Sam's or from Sam's auction web site and is now reselling them on ebay.
It is the same essential light as the Amondotech Illuminator only the Amondotech Illuminator has a 4200K bulb and is dark green.

That light weighs around 8 lbs 10 oz.
Anything under a $100 on those (including shipping) is a great price.
Over a hundred and the Amondotech Illuminator is a better purchase because of the 4200K bulb.

The N30 weighs only 3 lbs 8 oz and is much smaller.

The Sam's will outthrow the N30 and would be a better light if you do not plan on carrying it a lot and want lot's of throw in a medium size package.
The N30 would be the better choice if you want a decent amount of throw and want a light that is small enough and light enough to carry around for extended periods of time. The N30 is more versatile in that it has both LED's and an HID in the same light.

Regarding the light that nitnapz linked to, take a close look at the specs.
They do not add up. The bulb has a lumen rating of a 24 watt bulb not a 35 watt bulb. It is 6000k and the body is rather fat. If you don't have large hands it will get tiresome to hold.

I would rather have either a Sam's(Vector) or a N30 then one of those.
Actually if you have enough for one of those you could probably get the Sam's and N30.

If you take a close look at the first post in the N30 announcement thread
you will notice the Amondotech 6000K prototype/Sam's beam shots.
Those would be of the light you are asking about so you can use the beam shots in that thread to help you decide which of the lights is more suited to you. There is also a picture lower in the thread of the two Illuminators (Dark green Vector equivalents) and the N30 close enough to each other to be able to compare their relative sizes.
Here is a link to that thread.

I have the N30 and have been quite pleased with it, I would recommend it.

This one, like the Vector, uses a 6000K bulb, which will be somewhat bluish similar to most LEDs. The Amondotech is one of the few flashlights with a 4200K lamp which is very nice -- the same kind of lamp as the ones used in stadium bulbs, outdoor lighting, and OEM HID headlights.

Take a look at this comparison of the Sam's Club HID, and the old Lead-Acid Amondotech HID, the only difference between the two is the bulb:

For $350, I would buy an N30, and a mag hotwire (either buy one from the B/S/T forum, or build one) -- carry the mag for quickly lighting things up momentarily, or ultra-portability, and the HID for where you need maximum output and long runtime. The N30 certainly isn't a big burden, it's similar to a cheap 6V alkaline lantern in terms of weight and portability.

thanks a million, i was also looking for the same information as it is time that i'm going to pick up an HID.

i took a stroll into walmart yesterday to discover a V-2 power series black and decker 1300+ lumen .. i Believe 75W quartz halogen light.

how would a quartz and an HID bulb differ ?

2xTrinity - we think alike. awesome idea HID for high output and Mag hotwire .. way to go !

now i still am a bit new at the forum and slang etc. but along the lines of hotwire - if i am looking something over 800+lms, would you suggest a Mag85, i may have found online for about 115 from light-edge. runtime in my opinion - from reading all the other posts i see an hour is decent for high output Mags - example the borealis and the other black bear lines, which mag would suit YOUR needs ? and which could you recommend ?

thanks

The readers digest version to your answer is that a 35 watt HID bulb puts out around 3200 lumens. They are different technologies, but for practical purposes the HID is much brighter / watt.

If you search HID or High Intensity Discharge Light Bulbs you will find some good explanations.

Here is a link to one.

Also, I have a Light-Edge Mag 85 kit and like it a real lot. If you get one I would personally recommend the light Stipple reflector. The beam is not as perfect as the medium or heavy Stipple reflectors but it is still real even, in actual use, and has better throw. You can get MUCH more powerful hotwires but their brightness to run time make them more like light dragsters with the Mag 85 being like a light stock car and a regular mag being like a Hugo
