is there a good site that sells something other than the most current Seiko watches?

even Seiko's home site shows a very limited assortment.

i'm trying to find a good military style watch with a fabric band for $100-$200 (or under $100 if it's a legit' candidate) and am having alot of trouble, as i don't know what sites are to be trusted or not. this will be my first watch considered very high end, and i would like it to be extremely tough and excursion-resistant. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

so far i like the titanium SNA141P i saw here - http://www.skywatches.com.sg/seiko_military/SNA027P.HTM

Unfortunately most Seikos sold in the US are mass market jewelry-type watches and are marked up a lot. There are a lot of places that you can find good watches but many of them are in HongKong and Singapore, but some of them sell on ebay, have good feedback, and are known to provide good service to buyers in the US. I have just ordered one myself and am waiting for it to arrive. Unless you absolutely refuse ebay I would suggest going there and searching for "seiko military". There are quite a few of those SNA141's on ebay.

You might be interested in pmwf.com (poor man's watch forum) and http://www.network54.com/Forum/78440 (seiko-citizen forum). Both of these have buy/sell forums where you can post a request. Certainly the guys on pmwf can advise you as to what sellers are good.

I had good success with Chronograph.com out of Singapore (I'm in the U.S). My Seiko was an Orange Monster, new in box with all the Seiko paperwork, documentation and warranty card.

Sweet!

I understand that Skywatches.com is the same vendor known as Watches59 on ebay (the seller on the second post of this thread). I have bought Seiko military style watch from Watches59 very recently and he is good to buy from. Got mine for $56 delivered to my door, but I had been staking out auctions for several weeks waiting for a good snipe opportunity.

I am going to chinatown shortly, maybe I will drop by at skywatches to take a look see there since they are in the vicinity. I have been tempted to get a Casio G-shock... but the Seikos militarys looks really neat.

Seiko makes a very wide range of watches. Their automatic divers are my favorites- I have 3 now and 1 more on the way.

Yah the OM is nice, I prefer it in black rubber strap, reminds me of a watch my father used to wear when I was a child.

The SNA141 is a great-looking watch, but I was unhappy with mine for a few reasons:

- The 60-minute register on the chronograph is so crowded I couldn't read it to the exact minute.
- No hour register for the chronigraph.
- The Alarm was impractical to set because you have to unscrew the crown and pull it out before pushing the lower button to set. This practically requires removing the watch, all of which is a hassle.
- The alarm sound with the Titanium case back is too quiet. This may have been partially due to the protective sticker on the back which I didn't remove. But I still think it would be too soft.
- The crystal showed excessive reflections.
- All of the hands are too short to reach their indexes, making it hard to read with precision.
- Overpriced in my opinion.

Seiko makes some great watches, but be sure you really want this one before you buy. If you are primarily interested in a cool looking watch and don't really intend to use the Chronograph and alarm features, the SNA141 would be fine. Or if you would just use the Chrono for timing events of less than a minute and you intend to use the alarm display only as a second timezone display, then you would also be happy with the watch. I think the Hamilton Khaki line of watches includes one that looks very much like this watch.

"born2watch" on eBay has a good selection and pricing with US warrantty.

billgr: I don't think Seiko has made any manual winders since the '70s
