Not for sale.
I am done....

Any boating people probably have one of these.
It is the emergency beacon for sailboats etc.( Was the emergency beacon

)
Overall this thing cost :
25 bucks for circuit board to drive it...plus shipping.
Lux star...approx 16 bucks.
"Borrowed" emergency strobe case...15 bucks approx.
I could never make one and sell it for profit...it sure is fun to own however.
I think I am finally satisfied ( said the ledOmaniac).
This is what I have been trying to build/cobble/buy since I got on this board.
I am going to make one more Red/white/amber in a project box the size of half a paperback and twice as thick.
Then I am totally done...I guess

And one that's small...
And that's all I need.

And, and, one that's huge...
And that's all I need.

And, and, this remote control.
And that's all I need.

And, and this chair.
And that's all I need.

Argh matey, she look prettier than a mermaid...brings tears to my salty o`l eye`s. Run her up da lanyard...she`ll do us proud.

Well, it should keep you happy for an hour or two...when you going to start on the project box light?

You will never be done! I reckon you're as hooked as the rest of us. Think back to when we played with photon II's and now there's LS. Someone will make it brighter, smaller, burn longer, and you will want one.

"You want this, don't you? Now release your anger."

"AND AND???"
Typo, I hope. Why the two "ands" in each one?
Someone been hitting the bottle I hope...???

"...and this T.V. remote control and thats all I need... and this table lamps and thats all I need... and..."

Anyway, KenBar, is it visable from 360? I have been looking for a white 360 light that runs off a D or C cell for an anchor light that last a while. I don't like the idea of running my anchor light all night on our boat (only one battery, a little 18 foot). I thought about making one from a 3 cell Ledcorp LED and 3 C cells, but can't find a nice waterproof case. I do have a dead 1 C cell strobe that doesn't leak.

No...sorry.

It is really nothing more than running a LS and pointing it outward. The dome is optically clear and does not seem to interfere.

The person I talked to was telling me about the desigh for traffic lights...SO... it will not be long before they are doing mast lights I would presume.

Sflate and Brock got it.
Steve Martin, "The Jerk".

Sorry Ken!

Couldn't resist the similarity to the "and that's all I need" line.

I've got this funky looking little Dorcy 4AA light. Looks very similar to yours. May try it out for a similar conversion. It's got a little dot in the middle of the reflector though... Have to see what the beam looks like first.

You mentioned using a single D cell and $25 for the circuit board to drive the LS. What circuit are we talking about here? Can you give any details or plans?

Great mod, btw.

I really need to find some simple way of building a small, stable power supply from easily available components. Stupid **** Smith's doesnt' carry much in terms of ICs.

mmmmm... never saw it.
sometimes, things like this just sail right over and I don't have a clue. :-O

Nice light though. I've got a First Star white LED anchor light on my mast. It's not as bright as an LS, but it is a 360° light.

If I had it to do over...I might have tried this board...only $10 bucks.

This is the thread of the board I did use.

I don't think the $10 board would have worked with a single D battery light. The specs for the LM3477 state that the min input voltage is 2.95V (if I'm reading the specs correctly - I'm much more of a Biologist than an EE). Someone correct me if I'm wrong....

Slap my forehead
You are right!
I really like the $20 board however. (2621)

At 20 bucks, for me, it is a bargain. I don't think I could build it and not have a great deal of spoilage for $20.

So far it has been quite forgiving to my accidental bad hook ups.
