Ok, so here is the scoop, 2 weeks ago we had Christmas party at our house. I parked my truck in the street. I parked my truck right in front of my neighbors (across the street neighbors) driveway (on the opposite side of the street). I pulled up farther than normal because of the people we were expecting. They could park directly behind my truck which would put them right in front of my house. My neighbor ALWAYS parks his truck behind MY driveway. I parked my truck in a way that would be good for my guests, and it was kind of a FU to my neighbor.
It is now after the party. Guests have left. I was sitting in my living room with my daughter watching TV. Wife and her mother were downstairs. We had our Christmas tree up so my blinds were always opened a bit. I watched my neighbor (the wife) back up her TrailBlazer XL. I know she has to cut the wheel pretty hard to get around my truck, pfft, welcome to my world chick. Does she cut her wheel? Hell no. *Bang* I hear. I know she just hit my truck. I wait inside for a minute to see if she comes over. Nope, she just sits in here truck. I get on my shoes and go outside. She did not look while she was backing up. My truck is black and it was late at night. The dent isn't bad, just annoying. I have one of those Sonoma Highrider trucks. They have these fenders that sit over the larger 4x4 wheels. The fender is cracked. She goes to get her husband and I sit in the street trying to pop out the dent. No luck. The husband says, "You know where I live, just let me know about the damages." Now if that was myself in that situation I would have had my insurance out before they could ask for it. They did not give me theirs that night. I let it slip.
It is now Saturday. I go to their house to get their insurance info. The husband says something like, "Oh I don't know where my wife put it." I offer to come back tomorrow (Sunday). This is just before Christmas. This happens during one of those "We ain't got no time" weekends. Busy with family stuff. This dude doesn't come over until Wednesday. He tells us that they do not have insurance. He says that his wife thought she payed for a year of insurance when she really payed for 6 months. He asks if we can wait on the claim so they can get insurance. After they get insurance we can tell a little fib about when my truck was actually hit. Ok, fine.
It is now New Years Eve. I know the guy will not come over for a bit. He doesn't. He shows up Wednesday, while I am at work. He tells my wife that his wife is worried about getting new insurance and putting a claim on it right away (WWWAAAAA, I hit someone and I have to put a claim on my insurance). He asks if they can just pay my insurance deductible. Well at this point I am finally pissed off. I tell my wife to call our insurance. I pay for insurance so I don't have to deal with this stuff. I just want my truck taken care of.
Thursday our insurance guy calls our house. He has been trying to contact the neighbors with no success. They are avoiding, surprise surprise. I call the insur guy later and he says he finally has spoken to the wife. The wife tells the guy that it is tight for them right now (which is why they didn't have insurance...I guess) and she says that they were trying to work something out with us. It has almost been 2 weeks since the incident. I Don't Care About Your Problems. You didn't look, You hit my truck, You choose to have other luxuries instead of insurance, You have to fix my truck.
Yesterday the husband comes over our house. He spoke to my insurance. He found out that we can cancel our claim. He knows that the insurance shop will charge a ton of cash to fix my truck (no insurance = they are sued and must pay all damages). He wants me to take my truck to a friends collision shop. The husband works for a casino in Detroit. This collision guy is a client. He can fix your truck up good and he will save me a ton of cash. Oh, I'll even get you a rental car and I'll give you some extra bucks. So if I say yes, my wife, child, and myself must drive down to the *** crack of Detroit and hope that this "friend" fixes my truck properly. I can just see this guy doing a shitty job to save the casino friend money. Since I am a layman how would I know the job was bad?? There a ton of problems with this scenario. I don't want to drive to Detroit. I don't trust this body shop guy. I don't trust my neighbor. I don't want to pick up my truck from Detroit. I don't want a rental car. I don't want some "extra bucks". I want my truck fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today, I call my neighbor. I am not an a-hole. I let him know that I am not trying to be a creep. I want my insurance to fix my truck. THAT IS WHY I PAY FOR INSURANCE. We never talk to this couple so I don't owe any "neighbor friendship" (we will actually be outside at that same time and neither of us wave or say hi). Well the dude hangs up on me after the phone call. I am happy because I am finally going to have this fixed.
What gets me about this whole problem is the "save my ***" technique. I am the kind of guy who would just have the stuff fixed. I would not expect someone to kiss MY *** even though I was the guilty party. If I knew a collision guy, sure I would give their name, but I would not be annoyed if the person choose to go with their insurance. There are 2 sides to this kind of problem. Your side wanting to save some cash, and the person YOU inconvenienced. Who should really get the short end of the stick? The person you hit?
I did not ask to deal with this problem. Take it like a man. Don't be such a sissy...
Rant ENDED!!
