Boy, I apologize about asking all of these Mag Charger questions but I just love this thing. Does anyone know if an aftermakret reflector is available? I've heard of "orange peal" reflectors but don't even know what this means. I'm looking for something to go with the new WA bulb!!!

I don't believe that there are any 'drop in' reflectors currently available for Magchargers or Maglites. Some forum members have modified the Carley reflector #RF1940 to fit Maglites but I don't know what is involved to do this.

Another forum member was offering custom made reflectors sometime last fall but that was a limited offer. Orange peel refers to the texture of the reflector surface. It means the finish has an uneven, rippled surface that helps to produce a more uniform light pattern without holes or rings.

It was CPF member Otokoyama who was offering the custom mag reflectors here

smokinbasser, would this be ok to do with a Magcharger using a high output WA bulb? I'm afraid that the acrylic will burn off or start the flashlight on fire. I've seen postings that mention the incredible heat put out, particularly with the 01160 bulb.

RH,

Here's what you should do. Post in the B/S/T forum "WTB: PMR for MagCharger". Perhaps someone who has an extra modded Carley reflector will sell you one. That's the best possible reflector for the MC. Do a search on "PMR" and check it out. It probably wouldn't be that big a deal to modify one yourself. Anyway, you might get lucky. Perhaps someone will give one of theirs up.

I used to use hairspray on a UV-haze filter for my camera to make a ghetto "diffusion filter."

You can try removing the reflector and try puttilng a thin coating of hairspray on the reflector and try it out. You could also put some hairspray on the lens. If you don't like it, just wash it off.

I do not have a magcharger, so I do not how hot they get. The hairspray trick should work if the light stays cool. If, on the other hand, the reflector and/or lens gets hot, you MAY have problems. I do not know what heat will do to hairspray. As far as I know, the "hairspray blowtorch" trick only works because the propellant is flammable. So let the hairspray dry before putting it back in your light.

I'd deffinately say that going with the PMR is your best bet for a good reflector... just hop on the waiting list and wait to be amazed... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I was just looking through the manual for my MagCharger and it mentions the fact that the light is Type III Hard Anodized. I can't see any mention of it on their site. I wasn't aware it was HAIII.....????? I don't think any other Mags are HAIII... - when do you think the process will be cheap enough for before all of them are?

Must be a typo. Mag's are not HA-III. Are you sure you read it correctly? It would be great though. With the millions and millions of $$$ they've made and still make, it's already cheap enough for them to make lights in HA-III. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm likely going to do a run of Magcharger orange peel PMRs, though this is simply a sleazy bait'n'switch to get people interested in a Magcharger Daddy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I've promised it a few times, but will soon post a comparison of the Magcharger PMR vs. the Magcharger Daddy.
