I thought I would give this a go, maybe I have missed my perfect flashlight?

I don't want a light from the following manufacturers

Jetbeam
Quark
Fenix
Wolf-Eyes
Zebralight
olight
tiablo

I think by this stage, I am looking for something custom... (Maybe a McGizmo Aluminium _____?)

1) How would you prefer to purchase the light?

I will be mail-ordering or buying online, so this doesn't matter.

2) Budget:
Greater than $100.
Less than $300.

3) Format:

I want a flashlight.

4) Flashlight-specific format/size:

Every day carry medium (4-7 inches).
Every day carry small (2-4 inches).

5) Emitter/Light source:

LED: XP-G R5 or similar high efficiency LED

6) Manufacturer:

I would consider getting a light that is pieced together (for example a "host" or flashlight body from one manufacturer, and a "drop-in" emitter from another source).

7) What battery type do you want to use?

14500, RCR123/16340, 17500, 17670, 18650, etc.

8) How much genuine out the front (OTF) light do you want/need?

I want to illuminate my entire backyard or a campsite (150-300 lumens).

9) Throw vs. Flood:

50-150 yards/meters (I live in a very rural area/farm with wide open spaces)

10) Runtime:

90-120 minutes (Runtime is moderately important, but still not critical)

11) Durability/Usage:

Critical (Police, Fire, Search & Rescue, Caving, Survival).

12) Switch Type and location

I want a tail mounted switch

13) User Interface (UI) and mode selection. Select all that apply.

A simple on-off is fine for me.
I want multiple light levels. (Some lights have 5-16 light levels.)
I want a programmable light.
I want a strobe mode. (Blinks to show location.)

14)Material/Finish/Coating

Anodized Aluminum – either type II or III (hard anodized)

Titanium

15) Special Needs/extras:

MAYBE! Dedicated R/G/B secondary LEDs.

NO! Pocket/belt clip

YES! Crenulated bezel

My suggestion to meet most of your criteria would be:

1) Surefire 6P host (of your choice)
2) Nailbender multi-mode SST-50 drop-in, or Linger Special, or maybe the SST-90, all available here. (read through that thread for lumens ratings of those three choices)

This way, you could immediately use the light with two CR123 primaries, and you would have the option of boring the host to accept 18650. Any of those choices should produce a minimum of 500 OTF lumens. I don't think 300 is enough for what you describe.

JMHO. Have fun in your search! :D

Under budget, and seems to fit, and not on the do not want list. ET T20C2 MKII op version. Remove the clip, and your set. Though no colored diodes, does have a colored filter kit available.

I don't like that design... nor that manufacturer! The design seems too 'cluttered' if that makes any sense!

I know I am being picky, but I have an idea in my head. One which I cannot find in most existing light manufacturers

Another point which I should bring up, I am specifically looking for a light without knurling!

Hmm... given your excellent work on the double triple XP-G light, maybe it'd make more sense to make your own?

You have no idea, how close I am to doing this! I am so tempted to design something like the inforce color light! (Similar LED configuration, but with a XP-G R5 as the main LED. Red, Green, Blue and IR as the auxiliary)

Maybe a control system using a four way pushbutton on the rear of the light... Hmmm....

hmmm... I like some of their other designs, but none com stock with XP-G...

This is nice, the Mediterranean SS

Most of them are now using the XP-G. You should contact them directly, calling them is preferable, talk with Curt, tell him what you want.:D Look at the Pyranese, and the NP-300!

What are my options for a XP-G light, that is not quite as large as a 18650 battery type size...?

That's the first thing that came to my mind. I'd really like to see what you would come up with.

The problem is, I do not like designing screw threads... This makes a flashlight design, difficult... But very very different.

The whole % of engagement thing? I do have to say that going through the charts does get annoying, especially with anything outside of the standard thread sizes.
